i finally got time to pull the top off that pump today...theres actually 2 coils under there...i moved everything back and forth...plunger in the biggest coil seemed to be sticking in its bore...i got it moving ok,but still wont shut down...theres a paddle looking plate with a tang that looks like it moves a very small linkage in the bottom of bowl...linkage moves freely but the paddle feels loose in its mounting...you mentioned a spring last time...is there supposed to be a spring holding it in place?
i have looked for a diagram of pump but cant find anything...went to local IH truck dealer and they sent me back to Ford...you have a diagram handy?
BTW,i was fresh out of 10/32 sockets so i just used a 8mm ;)

If solenoid plunger moves freely and it still will not shut down plunger lever needs bent slightly toward rear of housing to push metering valve to stop. Stanadyne has a tool to set shutdown height, then is checked on test stand to make sure no fuel delivery in off position.
When plunger is energized lever is pulled away from linkage to alow free governor control.

Here are some photos of the DB2 (on a GM). Same basic layout on the Ford DB2. Just turns the opposite direction.

ok,this pump has a different linkage system...possibly later design...looks like a bunch of paper clips in bottom of bowl...thing thats confusing me is your pics are showing metering valve as run mode normally...if the coil plunger pushes the MV open...what holds the MV closed when ignition is turned off? is there a trick to putting top cover on and is there supposed to be a spring holding the tang plate/plunger in coil retracted?
if my description are confusing you i can try and get some pictures of what i'm talking about.
thanx again

ok,i sorta get what youre saying...i just cant visualize how it works...this is my first time inside a injector pump...if it was a carburator i'd do it blindfolded.
thanx

The coil plunger does not push on anything. It pulls. When energized in "run" position - the electromagnet pulls the plunger in and the metal swing-arm attached to it simply gets out of the way of the metering valve. Once out of the way, spring tension pulls the metering-valve into "run" position. When the solenoid is in "off", a spring forces the metering valve closed. There is NO mechanical connection between the fuel shut-off solenoid and the metering valve.

ok,i think i'm starting to understand...prob be this weekend before i get time to fool with it again...will post when i get results.
thanx again
