I went to use my trusty, very old tube of distributor cam lube only to find it dried out. In searching for a new tube no one even knew or understood what I was looking for.
So what do you guys use to lube old fashioned distributor cams with points anymore?

I still have a used tube of point cam lube that I was given by an old Chevy mechanic named Rhiney on my first job as a mechanic....in 1977! It was open when he gave it to me. Delco lube in a big 8 oz. tube. Still about half full.That tube has put a dab of lube on a LOT of cams in 35 years! I treasuse it now! Suspect it will outlast my need for cam lube!
 
I been using "Silglide" lubricant since my 50+ year old tube of magneto grease ran out several years ago. It is silicone-based and thus more heat/water resistant than the old mag grease.

Last time I looked a 3 oz tube of Silglide was about $5 at NAPA, etc.
 
Distributor cam lube is still available at NAPA but your store may need to order it. Talk to the old guy. Do not expect the twenty-somethings to know what you are talking about.

Thanks guys for your help. My tube was over 35 years old. Still has some in it but hard as a rock. Tried it, but it let the points rub block kinda fry so I know I needed something new. Only thing I got with points anymore are tractors.
 
Your NAPA store SHOULD have it. the part number is ECH ML1 . The old tractors and cars all have points, but this tube will no doubt be passed on to my heirs as it is fairly large.
 
If you have grease that is used for electric tool gears that works good too. I have used it a time or two.
