I have to brag a little!

My daughter has been looking for a teaching job for 3 years now. Secondary History and English certification.
Well I think she may have a hidden talent. She has been baking and selling goodies for the past year. Have to pay the student loans.

This cake was for a little boys birthday. Everything on the cake is edible and hand made and painted by my daughter. Very time consuming

Nice job! Wife does cakes, sometimes wedding cakes. I can sure appreciate her talent. Can tell some harrowing tales about wedding cakes that we"ve transported.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of fine potential teachers begging for jobs right now. Been in the education industry for years, seen it happen, and happen and happen. Wishing her luck!

You have a right to brag. The cake is amazing, but your daughter is amazing also, meaning she has the initiative to take care of her student loans in a way that was not planned. Should make you proud.

Nice job, maybe she outt open a cake shop, be better than
teaching that bs, history, and english!! why teach history? At
least cake making is a skill. But I guess if she gets a teachers
job, the tax payers can cover her retirement, health insurance
co pays ect, least that's how it is here in NY,

Wow! Very professional looking. Not only does she have great creative talents but she's willing to go forward with her life instead of sitting and waiting for oppertunity to come to her.

After Marilyn graduated with an elementary ed degree in 1973 she couldn't find a job so was a waitress and then after that a job managing a golf clubhouse before a teaching opportunity came along. It was after those two years in limbo that her 35 year career in the field of education began. Jim

That looks so good. Now I have to explain why there are "lick" marks and even "teeth" marks on my computer screen. LOL She did an amazing job. Now I am hungry for sweets. Where is the ice cream? I have a fork, will travel too. LOL

I dident say anything about socialism, but learning about moa z dung and his million man march had no impact on me, that was years ago??? I mean should I look out for that to happen again?ect ect!

Forgive me Jay, but this was a proud poppa post, with an excellent
photographic example of his daughter's hard work, skill and talent displayed.
Why on earth you brought politics into that baffles me.
Rollie was posting about a hard working American.
Not the politicians or those so caught up with them that they can think of nothing else.

My son had to go a few county's over to get a teaching job... My daughter fresh out of collage got a job rite off the bat in her home town,,, don't figger does it but both are teaching in their home town now....

My grand daughter had her first birthday party today,,, their was a guy and a gal their making toys out of balloons and face painting............. They get $200 a hour and said that's all they do for a living  They did a great job...

It was a double birthday party for 2 kids so the price was split...,,, Me I would have had it a Burger King and let them clean up the mess

I hope she does well at it and gets the Government job also....

That is an impressive cake. With attention to detail like that she would be a good teacher.

FYI, years ago a friend left a job teaching kindergarten to become an executive secretary in a corporation because it paid much better. She commented that controlling kindergarteners and powerful executives with big egoes was about the same.

Yaaaaaaaaa,,,, I said she had a great talent, stick with it, I
dident bring up politics, but he posted she's looking for a
teaching job, a job paid by tax payers,??????

My daughters love of history was because of a very good history teacher she had in high school.
She loves to teach young people. She has taught gymnastics and cheerleading. She also works three nights a week as a waitress, is a asst. cheerleading coach at one of our local Universities, unpaid and is also a Jr. High cheerleading coach. Teaching is her passion. It has nothing to do with it being a govenment job.

Rollie, I'm sorry this post turned bad. There is so much talented intricate detail in the design and perfection of that cake that it deserves high praise, but some people are so tied up in their own agenda they are totally unable comprehend what they are seeing. Jim

Very talented lady ya got. She must have the patience of unbelievable proportions to do that kind of detail.

Bad as I hate to add to this offshoot of a nice thread, saying that something that happened years ago has no effect on you is total BS. To think that is akin to saying that your Dad getting your Mom pregnant had no effect on you being here.......EVERYTHING that has happened in this country, and in other countries for that matter, effect our lives today, regardless of wether it was the founding of this country, the Cicil War, , WW1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, The Persian Gulf, and the current state of affairs in the Middle East. EVERYTHING that happens, especially nowdays in a 'world' economy if going to effect all of us be it directly or indirectly. Thinking otherwise is just plain dumb...... Nuff said........

Jay in NY..Knock the Teachers if you must.
While you say neather, we say neither.
Who is Moa Z Dung, someone residing in the cowyard perhaps.?

Great looking cake. My wife got into making cakes a few years back and does them on occasion for friends and family. I've helped out with a few of them and can say from experience that putting something like that together takes alot of both time and talent. If she's not doing it already she ought to start marketing them on sites like Craigs List, etc. There is alot of money to be made in making specialty cakes like that.

That's "repeats," not "repetes."

Yup! In this day (2012), the teachers' unions are nothing but political arms of the left. Not only are they not needed but they are detrimental to education. However, back in the late 60's when it became legal for teachers here in NYS to bargain with their employers, theunion was instrumental in helping teachers improve their lot in life. But now-they are just political organizations.

But, over the years I have found that people who attack teachers have no clue about what a teacher's job involves. And, I've also learned that vocal critics of teachers (like you, Jay) would NEVER have been successful in the classroom! You wouldn't have made it through a full day without hiding under your desk and crying for someone to rescue you.

I've worked on farms, piled green lumber off the tail of a large saw mill, worked for a veterinarian and stocked shelves and bagged groceries in a supermarket at night to get through college. So how do I know about what it's like to be a teacher? I'll let you figure it out if you can, without the help of a teacher!

doubleN,
46 years in full-time and part-time education at the high school and college level. (Oh-and 15 years in the private sector in the mix too.)

Have a good day and don't feel too bad about your misspellings; experience again has taught me that spelling is just one of those skills that allow some people to do better than others, kind of like Derek Jeter being a better short stop than me!

Great job! Don't even want to say what things would have looked like if I had tried to do something like that!!

And-tell her to hang in there; a teaching job will come along.

Rollie NE PA,

Wow, your daughter did an AMAZING job! Just beautiful and very creative. She could probably make big money doing cake decorating.

I bet she could make one with some farm buildings and a tractor on it. That would look really cool.

I will be right there with a spoon and a gallon of ice cream.
She is definitely an artist. When she gets established teaching, cake decorating looks like it could be a nice weekend job.

A little cupcake shop in Frankenmuth MI just won some contest on cable TV, a cool $10K in their pocket.
