OT: Funny phone call

Here is a laugh for all of ya.

Last night around 7pm the phone rings, I noticed that the area code was 3 hours east of me.
I figure, Ok lets have some fun with this clown. I pick up the phone.....Mr. So and So this is the fraternal order of police....Blah, Blah. I said "Oh I thought you were going to get me to vote for the white guy or the black guy" No, Mr. So and So I really hope you understand how important the police are, yada, yada. I said "you know what I bet you take a lot of verbal abuse huh"? He says "well yes Mr. So and So I am so glad you understand me" I said -----"Let me guess you want Money from me,-----Well I thought that is what my taxes are for" "Well yes Mr. So and So but money is needed for....." I said "I need for you to answer something for me" "What does the state police do other than hand out tickets on the freeway" "can you answer this for me"? The guy says "no I cant"..........I laughed and hung up.

What the F*** is the fraternal order of police anyway? Is it just a scam.? I have wondered this for a long time. Any police officers here?

FOP is for real. These outfits that solicit money for the FOP are keeping almost all of the money collected for themselves. They give just enough to the FOP to stay within the law (minimal % at best) so if you wish to donate to the police, the best bet is to donate directly to your hometown police force. No, I'm not a police officer. This advise came from two friends of mine who are police officers.

Lou is absolutely correct, these phone calls are a scam. They say the money is for widows and orphans of police officers killed but little if any goes to the law enforcement.

In Texas, the legislature compensates families of law enforcement killed in the line of duty so there is no need to solicit funds. Local police associations do not solicit either. They are supported by dues from the officers themselves. They are more apt to give money than ask for money.

That is about as bad as what I saw yesterday. Went to the store to buy a few things and he is a city cop parked in such a way as to block not one but 2 handicapped places. I say something to him about it and he says well I am on a call. I say yes I understand that but why did you block 2 spaces and why handicapped places at that when there was a place not 15 yards that was open. Sad that things are getting to the point even the cops show no respect for others. By the way I was not the only person who told him he was in the wrong

Neighbor is a cop. Tells me he LOVES giving tickets to these guys with FOP stickers all over their car. They tell him they support the state troopers. He tells them he's just a deputy sherriff....

Every time I get a call like that I tell the guy on the phone to have a officer stop by the house and I will give him a donation. They say that they don't do things that way, so I tell them that I don't send money through the mail. They just hang up.

Have always figured what Lou says. Many of those fund raisers are raising for themselves, just slip organization enough feedback to get the organization to let them use their name.

In Cincinnati the FOP is the Police Union. They negotiate contracts and fight to keep any cop from getting fired, regardless of what he has done.

My mother always used to say "I do not respond to telephone solicitation", I just hang up. I am sure there are some legitimate organizations calling for money but I have heard that many are not.

This is what caller id. is for. If I don't know the number, I let my answering machine talk to them. If it is someone wanting to talk to me, they will leave a message and I will call right back. If no message, their call was not important anyway.

I got one of those call also. I"ve heard of
warnings in Wisconsin...that money is not, or
does not help police. State Troopers in Wisconsin
are paid pretty good , anyway, why would they
need to raise money!

I tell them: "No money because I favor the crooks". They don't know how to answer that so they hang up and don't call back for a long, long time.

I had a call once. It was the Local Fire Protection District fund raiser or at least they said it was. So I asked who I was speaking to. He said "the president of the Association". I said, you don't sound like my brother in law, who was the president at that time. Ooops. Quick apology and he was gone.

We used to be pestered by some police association soliciting for a children'e fund. The guy had a very deep authoritative sounding voice. I kept hanging up on him but finally I just told him I'm not giving him any money. He said 'SO YOU DON'T LIKE CHILDREN HUH!!!" and he hung up. I haven't heard from him since. Later I heard this supposed police association was being investigated. We now have caller ID so we don't pick up for any call out of the area except for family. Jim

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT give money to these people who "represent" the police. (or the fire department) First, very little money you give to these people actually goes to a policeman. We are talking probably about 1%-2% of the money they gets goes to the cops.
Ask the telemarketer two questions: Are you yourself a cop? (He will tell you that he is not a cop) Next ask him what percentage actually goes to the police force. He will hem-haw around and side-step the question and say that the cops have gotten $MILLIONS$ of dollars from his company, but he won't say the percentage. Or, the smart ones are now lying and saying that a huge percentage now DOES go to the cops. (ask them for proof of that)
Bottom line: These guys pocket almost all of the money you give them and if you are lucky, (or unlucky), they will send you this stupid little sticker to put on your bumper.
To the people who have this sticker on your bumper, please show the world that you can learn something and go scrape it off your bumper.
BTW, with all the benefits and pensions added in, cops get a decent wage. Yes, I have a niece who is a state trooper and so is her husband. My niece will secretly laugh at anybody who has this sticker on their bumper as she writes them up.

The wife and I went 100% celuler. No more hasels from solisiters. The people who need our ph#s have them. Another plus, the wife can yack with her sister and brother for way too long, (in my opinion) and I still have the use of my phone for my calls, at the same time. We have a Verison family and friends plan, with a 700min. per month. We average about 450min./ month. of chargable time. Other Verison users are no charge at certain times of the day.

I answered the phone one night a couple of years ago (before I got caller ID). Male caller asked to speak to the lady of the house. I said she can't come to the phone right now - she's drunk. Drunk he sez? I said yeah - again - well actually - still. Oh my he said - when can I talk to her? I said I don't know - she hasn't been able to hold her head up for three days - sometimes it lasts for a week or more. He hung up. Meanwhile - my wife was looking at me like I had worms crawling out of my ears. Who was that she said? I said I don't know - he never said his name. She said what if it was the preacher (as if I wouldn't know his voice)? I said - then he's got something to preach about next Sunday. Wife is a teetotaller, by the way.

So I get a phone call late one evening like 10 O'clock there is this guy all Out of breath and asks how late do you stay open. Midnight I said. He hung up.
The last for digits of my phone are the same as NAPA auto parts. My first 3 are the same as the other store in Dallas.
I bet that guy was pizzed off.

if you have caller I'd and recognize its a solicitor try this one.
In the most monotone voice you can.
"you have reached a non working number at the internal revenue service. Please , check the nbr you are dialing and call again. Message 314254."
Then hang up.
greatly reduced Crap calls for me.
I can only assume the cold callers mark nbr as incorrect and/or IRS and cross it off their list.

Had one call once for donations so they could afford their gun. I mentioned he could get a second job like most people do if they really want something. He said that just doesn't work, and then I asked him how much the gun costed, $900, then I mentioned when I started tech school to be a mechanic my tools were $3800, he hung up for some reason. chris

They have called here several times, ask for my wife and when I tell them she isn't home and ask to take a message they hang up. Finally asked who I was speaking to and very candidly told them NOT to call again.

I had one from a phone company wanting me to change to their plan, whatever that was- we never got that far. In my best Norwegian accent, I told the guy that my Uncle Torvald vould be the vun to talk to, he's down to the pump house, I run get him. You hang on, dere, I yust be a minute. The guy's trying to talk me out of leaving, and he finally says he'll call back later.

Could have said......"I am only donating money to the cops to buy ammo to kill phone solicitors"
Maybe bordering on the edge of death threats.
