Buying on eBay??

I have bought a lot of tractor parts and hand tools on eBay. Either I have become impatient or sellers are changing.
Just in the last two weeks, I bought a 3pt. hitch Quickhitch---a Porter Cable belt sander-an Echo chainsaw--and a concrete cutting gas saw.
With all these items, I only received a confirmation of PayPal payment.
No response and no Thanks from the sellers!!
I can only remember this happening occasionally in the past.
I guess I may have to stop or slow down buying because I do not like to contact a seller to find out when the item will be shipped!! And I don't like a seller holding item for several days before shipping. I guess this is just something that has to be tolerated when dealing with "side line business operators"
I guess I am just impatient but after paying for an item I would like some seller communication.

i havnt bought anything on there in a while but i hate non communicating sellers too. and sellers that will comunicate but will only check there mail once a week and you have to wait almost 2 weeks to get all the info between us.

Overall we have had pretty good interactions with sellers.

But we do prefer when a tracking number is listed, so we can track our purchase.

I am the other way. I am sick of buying some small item and getting bugged to fill out a feed back reply. I am often tempted to fill it out with all zeros in it for bugging me.

I have bought new cars and gotten bugged less than a $10 item on Flea bay creates.

Thats is not to mention the fifty emails from Flea bay and the seller for one simple transaction.

It's the mentality of the people too....... I don't worry as long as I get my stuff. They can tell me to kiss..... as long as there is a tracking number in the mail. We buy quite a bit of stuff with ebay and paypal, saves a lot of time and fuel...
As for the feedback, it's a necessity for both buyer and seller to have good feedback and as much as possible... If you get something, it takes just a second to leave the feedback good or bad.... It's an arrogant SOB that gets upset and badmouths folks that ask them to do something they shoulda done in the first place....

Wait till you have a problem with something you bought if you think there not talking to you now.I buy some small things off ebay, but they are usually misrepresented.I'd rather pay more around home and have someone to yell at if there's a problem.A lot of stuff on ebay you don't even know where the seller is at,it's all drop shipped.

Just stay away from buyers or sellers that boast of their God fearing and Christian values... Just a screwin waitin to happen......

Dave I just bought a weird bearing for an old washing machine. Cost was $8 plus $3 shipping. I kept track of all the emails and such. Between Ebay and the seller there are NINE emails in my account for this $11 transaction.

I have not even got the bearing yet but three of the emails are from the seller asking me to fill out the feedback form. How the heck do I know if the item is what they said it was I don't even have it yet!!!!

I buy little on Ebay. I think I am at 45 items in the 6-7 years I have been using it. I have sold three items on there but will sell ZERO in the future. The way Ebay handles the whole Paypal thing is a joke.

I sold a JD "B" as a parts tractor. I posted photos and a list of the good parts and what was not there. A guy from the Quad-cities bought it. He wanted to use Paypal. I usually just tell them to pay me when they pickup the item on something like this. I tried being a nice guy and let him pay me with Paypal. NEVER AGAIN!!! He took the tractor. Paypal put the money into my bank account. I thought deal done. NO so fast. The buyer told Ebay that I had shorted him on the delivered item. WHAT the heck??? HE PICKED up the item here. He could have refused it then and there. Paypal/Ebay took the money out of my account. No notice to me or anything. Just zap the money was gone. I contact Ebay. They tell me the issue is between the buyer and I. They are not involved. So I had a clown with the parts tractor and zero money.

Luckily I had his address. I went to the county he lived in and contacted the local sheriff. He sent a deputy out with me to the guys place. I gave him the choice to pay me the cost of the item and fuel money for me coming down to get paid or give the tractor back. He paid me and acted all surprised that there was any problem.

So I am not real favorable of Ebay since then. Their system is too easy to crook if you really wanted too.

always gonna have crooks. As for the emails, just ignore them. We don't sell much, but when we do, it's mostly bank transfers from their account to ours and we don't ship til the money is there. When we buy here, it's eithet a bank transfer or cash at pickup, and always paypal or a postal money order to the States. We only sell over here.
Only takes a couple of folks to screw something up for everybody....

I've done maybe 50 E-bay transactions, Ford parts, Cub Cadet stuff, Honda parts
and a Wheel Horse Lawn tractor. I only really had one transaction go bad. Seller
was selling a fender for the Ford and misrepresented the fender, it wasn't what
he said it was in the posting, heck it even still had a VIN number on it to
confirm it wasn't the fender he stated it was. I file a complaint, he slimes me
on the feedback and states his dinky little poorly focused picture should
override anything he types in the description. E-bay tells me to send the fender
back to him and I'll get my money back plus freight, so I did, never saw the
money. I don't use it much anymore because of the policy of E-bay allowing spam
in the description. It has also got so they are pretty much a source for common
parts and if you need something a bit odd E-Bay allows the sellers to
misrepresent the common parts as the odder ones you need. I was buying parts for
a specific Ford Mustang. Ford made about 10,000 of this particular model ALL of
them were hatchbacks with gray interiors made with turbo fuel injected 4 cylinder
engines, 5 speed manual transmission, 4 wheel disc brakes, 16" forged 5 lug
aluminum wheels and unique hood, spoilers, spats, steering wheels and tail
lights. I enter the model and have to sort through brake drums, carburetors,
torque convertors,V-8 engine parts, convertible tops, red interior trim and 14" 4
lug steel wheels that the seller/scammers proudly claim fit my car and E-Bay does
nothing. Betcha I could probably find a clutch pedal listed for a John Deere B or
an unstyled JD A water pump listed on E-Bay.

Placed an ad on yt classifieds, fella from my own state answered back saying that he had what I needed, payed for it before he would ship, got it, not the same but from older tractor, called him, excuse was that son packaged it,told him that I was sure that he knew what he sent, his response"f--- you a$$hole" great guy to do business with

I am now topping over 200 items bought on ebay. Mostly being tractor parts but not always.

They don't always respond. Only from paypal. If you are like me and very impaitient, you can contact the seller and ask them when they think it might arrive. I usually ask a little silly question like that I might get a response. There are times I still don't get any responses. You can always make that comment in your feedback section after you receive the item.

I know just what you're talking about. I've bought a lot of items on Ebay and I will say, most of the sellers are good. But I have bought items and never hear back from the seller once the purchase has been made. It can't be that hard to send an email to the buyer and say thanks and let the buyer know when the item will be shipped. I do when I sell things on Ebay and it only takes a minute or two.
Another pet peeve is when a seller won't leave feedback until after I as a buyer leave feedback. This is wrong!! I fulfilled my commitment as a buyer by promptly paying for the item. Once I receive the item and it is as described I leave positive feedback. I will say, I have never had to leave negative feedback for any seller after purchasing 375 items.
All in all I'm satisfied with Ebay but there is always a few that make buying things a pain. Just try to be a good communicator when selling and appreciate the buyer and I think all would be fine.

The Seller I bought from a Short time ago.List all but 1 of the items Shipping through UPS /The 1 item was local pick up only ?Which I ask before the sale ended [Got No Reply ]Why ? I had bought the Same item from him about 3 weeks before & was shipped UPS .So When He Sent me the total with the Shipping cost All the items WERE To be Shipped only Truck Freight Only & had the be a Business other then My Farm. I told Him He Could Just Keep the Stuff = Marty Prill,Bad Axal,Michigan /Tryed to Burn me

Hey DC , I've dealt with him in person and he is a piece of work to be sure. You made the right move. I live within driving distance an still won't buy from him.

I find them kind of hit and miss, have made a couple of hundred purchases over the years. You can find things there that can't be found elsewhere.
When something is mis-represented it is USUALLY because the seller does not know what he/she is selling.
You have to compare prices with items that are on the shelf locally, sometimes cheaper and without all of the hassle to buy at the store locally.
If you shop for "deals" on Ebay it is very time consuming. Depends on how much your time is worth.

I imagine it may partly have to do with how ebay pretty much ran/kicked off a bunch of the smaller, older sellers there a few years back, catering to the big and Chinese sellers. The newer smaller sellers probably don"t feel the same sense of community and such like the older sellers.

As already mentioned, as far as buying on ebay in general goes, check out (and actually read some of) the feedback left for the seller. Maybe send them a question to gauge their responsiveness. If they don"t reply quickly, or at all, maybe keep looking.

Read the description very carefully to know exactly what you"re getting. When in doubt, ask. Don"t wait until you win an auction to start asking questions.

A couple more ideas:

If you have a question about an item, go to another of the seller"s listings and ask the question from there. This will add a bit of work for the seller, if they want to add your question and their answer to the item description page. Maybe other interested buyers will not bother to ask a question, instead just continuing to look for a similar item that already has the question answered in the item description.

If you see an item that you want listed in auction format, send the seller a message asking if they will accept $x to end the auction early and sell the item to you. If that doesn’t work, use a sniping service such as Hidbid.com to bid for you. It’ll bid in the last few seconds, helping to save $ and avoid shill bidding.

If there is a particular item that you want that is relatively rare on eBay or goes fast when one is listed, use ebuyersedge.com to set up a saved eBay search for it. You’d get an e-mail whenever a match is listed. You can use the price, category, exclude word, etc. filters to narrow down the results that you get in the e-mails. Excellent for “Buy It Now”s priced right.

If the item that you’re looking for is difficult to spell, try a misspelling search site like Typojoe.com to find some deals with items that have main keywords misspelled in the title. Other interested buyers may never see them.

Good advise----I [b:b31f86acad]ALWAYS [/b:b31f86acad]check seller feedback!! I also check to see how long they have been selling and [b:b31f86acad]ALWAYS ask a question[/b:b31f86acad]. I have noticed a "trend" that seems to be happening with a lot of sellers. When you look at the number of bids and check them, sometimes there will be many bids from a buyer with "[b:b31f86acad]ZERO--0[/b:b31f86acad]--- items sold or bought. Just the other day, I noticed a particular item had an unusually high number of bids----47 bids from a Zero buyer out of a total of 52 bids!!! Looks to me like the [b:b31f86acad]seller is the ZERO buyer[/b:b31f86acad]!!!
It is quite evident that one has to be very [b:b31f86acad]CAREFUL[/b:b31f86acad] when purchasing an item on eBay!!
