Hi, I have a michigan from maybe the 60s. It says tractor loader on the side which was painted on.It also has clark? on the side but, michigan on the grill. The engine has stamped on the block f227.It is not a tractor but, more like what I call a front end loader. I found out it is a continental. It smokes and is low on power. A guy at work tells me that a big chevy truck engine? will bolt up to the bellhousing from the loader. One from the 60s, but does not have any good info, size or year. Tried to google, but cannot find any interchange. Can anybody help? Any help will be appreciated. TIA. RON

I would rebuild what is in it.

Then you will know what you have.

Higher HP may tear up something else.

But that"s me, you do as you wish.

A neighbor had one of those. It was powered by 227(?)Waukesha with a torqueconverter. It was also underpowered and slow, but it would lift the planet and was practicly unstoppable in low.It would barely pull itself in hi gear gear

Sounds like it is a Continental 227 engine which is a flat head 6 cylinder used in a lot of heavy equipment. The tractor engine is the Cont 226 and it will bolt in the same place as the 227. Sorry can not tell you what tractor to look for but if I remember right it is a MH

I think the Oliver 70s used those engines. Not a real valuable collector tractor, but a WHOLE BUNCH of'em around. They can usually be bought for scrap price.

I don't know what model you have from your description. I have a Model 75A michigan. Its a straight frame loader with rear steering and about a 1 yard bucket on it. It has a waukesha engine in it. I swapped one in from an 880 oliver. The original bore and stroke matched with an 88 oliver.

Maybe with some pictures someone could identify it.

Thanks for all the input. I do not know how to post pictures. I failed to add that the present engine has a crack in the block that has been repaired. That is why I may be looking at something different. RON
