Good video of the logging industry in 1930 in Maine

This movie follows the logs form the stump to the sail. It shows the logs being floated down stream to a saw mill and then being shipped by a sailing ship. It is really fun to watch.
Stump to Sail

That was filmed about 50 miles from me.

The descendants of most of the people in that film still live around here, and it wouldn't surprise me but what a couple of the people IN the film are still around.

Hard folk living in a hard country. The Depression didn't really end in far Eastern Maine until about 1960.

Interesting Video..

Those guys walk on those logs going down river, like it's nothing special, amazing..

Absolutely wonderful! I know just enough about logging and lumber I was able to follow most of what was said. My great grandfather ran a mill in the 1880s and sold hemlock shingles by the carload. It would be very interesting to have pictures of that operation. They would have used water power from the Brokenstraw Creek
