Hydraulic Hose sealer?

Getting ready to replace hoses on a neighbor's JD 74 loader. I used to use teflon tape, is there some thing better?

What Jim said and do not use Teflon tape on the pipe threads. It shreds and ends up floating around in the system. Use a pipe dope like RectorSeal.

I use Teflon tape, but I always start 1-2 threads from the end of the fitting so any fragments can't get into the system.

I use Locktite 545, and only on NPT. There is also one called JET-LOC. Have only found either of these at a hyd. shop. Parts store counterman will tell you just to use regular red locktite - NOT the same thing ! Ken

Using teflon tape could cause more problems in the upcomming days. If you need a sealer use a paste type!
A small piece of thread from the tape could destroy a pump or control valve or other components in the hyd system.

I would use Gasoila soft set and only coat the first pipe threads. The flared fittings shouldn't leak since they seal when the swivel nut mates to the flared fitting. Hal

I"ve alwsys used TFE tape, start it one thread below the end, and remove any spare tape or pieces later, no problems.
