A couple of days ago, before "SANDY" hit here, consumers, emptied the shelves of big boxes and mom and pop stores, buying generators. "Big news story" and emergency orders were placed by vendors to replenish the shelves. Well here in Central NY, Sandy's impact was minimal, and today the local news was reporting that droves of people were returning, unused, out of the box generators;;;;; What do these people think ??????? Are these vendors cheap insurance vendors also???
I can't believe the ordasity of people.

Down south, our Lowes and Home Depot have a no return policy on gens, chainsaws, etc if you buy during an emergency because people will abuse the normal return policy. It might make for some good deals, if you could pick up one for half price.

Not much I expect.
Shops should refuse returns.
However things will pick up now due to the necessity for reconstruction.

Ya, there to stupid to stop and think about a future storm that might happen. Keep the genny and you will be prepared next time this happens, which u know it will. I can't imagine not having a generator,

Around 10 years ago we had a storm that knocked out power to about 100'000 here. The panic was on.Every Lowes,Home Depot,Rural King, TSC and anybody else that sold generators was emptied. After the power came back on most got returned.
The next power outage they all had a sign at the front door that said no return on generators.Problem solved.

Very simple it is a throw away take back if you do not need it world any more. I see it all the time with things like guys who buy the radio's to go deer hunting so they can talk to there friend in the field then once the season has ended they take them back and say things like well if did not work like O believed it should have or some such thing

My son works at Lowes and says that it is very common for someone to come in and buy a saw on friday this time of year and bring it back on Monday claiming that it doesn't work right. They probably expected it to cut the wood while they sat and watched.

Boomerang purchases, not only on generators tools snow blowers and lawn mowers but also on high end lady's clothes, jewelry and other seldom used high ticket items. And then folks complain about the high margins retailers have to hold to stay alive.

Pretty normal. I don't do retail, but I sell to businesses. They do the same thing. I just charge a restock fee and they pay the freight. Sometimes they decide to keep it after I tell them that.

Them's just the capitalists (read crooks/ vultures/ wolves/)

They'll rush in and buy em up in hopes that their neighbor may have been too slow and they can sell him one at twice the price......

I was at LOWES just after Christmas last year and I was behind a couple at the Return desk with 3 flat dolly loads of outdoor Christmas decorations(reindeer, Santa Claus, inflatables, lights, etc.). They were returning them because they said they were '"Not happy with them". They got their refund.

I saw a special on Walmart once and it talked about the requirments to be a supplier for them. You had to able to takeback a certain percentage of returns, they had a graph for each product and the history average of returns. Even with all the returns, people are still dieing to supply Walmart.
