Baling corn stocks

My hay crop failed this year and I was going to bale some corn stocks that have a lot of volunteer grass but the problem is I also have a little Johnson grass in the mix.

We have had a frost but not a killing frost and I know Johnson grass needs to set for a few days before it can be baled or grazed but I cant find a good answer for the number of days hay with Johnson grass needs to set/dry.

Does any one know?

I’ve read 4 day up to 14 days are needed before hay with Johnson grass or sorghum can be baled.

At one time I remember reading an alert from the University of Illinois on the subject but I can’t find the report anymore on the web.

And as you spread the manure from it, you'll spread your johnsongrass problem. Not bad if you use it on corn or soybean ground, then return with roundup ready for the next twenty years. Otherwise, you'll never get rid of it...

7-10 days is your answer. Baling the Johnsongrass does tend to dissipate the prussic acid over a period of about 3-4 weeks. So, wait 7-10 days prior to baling and then wait 3-4 weeks before feeding the bales. You'll be fine then.
