does any one here shoot one of those henry rifles? I got a call last night saying i had won one in a raffle.(first time i can recall winning anything). just wondering what folks thought of them,i dont recall ever even looking at one. supposedly this is the 30-30 cal one. i vaugly remember when i enterd this raffle last spring it was the brass recievered one but i could be wrong. should be fun to play with anyway.or should i just hang it on the wall?.

jackinok,
Play with it...and hang it on the wall. What fun is a toy that you cannot play with too?

My da bought one a sweet little .17 cal very good looking gun in 17 can"t shoot a ballistic tip as the lever action actually presses the bullet into the casing but it is a very nice gun.. They aren"t really the type of gun you can put a scope on but it"s a good brand and American made..

I am only familiar with their .22s.The quality is exceptional.Even better than my 9422 winchester and alot smoother action.Steve

what not a balistic tip?

hornady leverrevoloution line of ammo with balistic tip was made SPECIFICALLY for lever action / tube mags so people didn't have to load with round nose ammo.

why no scope.. i have a few LA's with scopes...

Henry makes exceptional rifles, in all calibers. I have shot their 44-40 in Civil War mounted Cavalry reeenactments. They are awsome, though tend to jam if you get crazy and try to shoot too fast. When they were first introduce by the Yankees in late 1864 it was said that "you could load it on Sunday and shoot all week." So go ahed and shhot it all you can afford (as shells are very expensive). And ALSO hang it on the wall, since it is a real work of art!!

Hi, I own two golden boys .22 and .22 mag. I also own a big boy .44 mag. Henry sells a cantilever scope mount which is solid and works well. You just need to follow their directions for drilling and tapping. The rifles are very accurate and extremely attractive. My only dislike, and I have made it known to Henry, is the sharp square muzzle crown. When a cleaning rod is used, much care is needed as not to damage it. (Sorry I don't like the bore snakes) Quality firearms, you"ll enjoy it. Jim

I have three: .22, .22Mag and .45 Colt.

LOVE them. Not one complaint. The action is slick, accuracy is good to excellent, fit and finish is very good especially for the price, and company support/customer service makes the Big Names look like a bad dream.

I have red dot scopes on both .22's. Haven't put anything on the .45 Colt yet, but when I get a couple of bucks and access to a gunsmith I want to put a Marbles tang-mounted peep on it.

The ammo is expensive now, 75 cents per round for the 30-30. A .22 is cheaper to shoot. Unless you want the 30-30 for deer.

They were made in New York City up until a few years ago. I think they've moved to New Jersey but still Made in USA.

Soundguy we did not have that ammo, When we picked up the rifle at our dealer he gave us a box of .17 ammo. I would imagine if hornady makes it, it's a good product and works.... All I meant by my scope comment is that they do not come from factory pre-drilled. We shot ours maybe a dozen times cleaned it and in the safe it went....

Made in USA. Maybe over priced but made to shoot and be a collector in years to come. Shoot it but take care of it.
They make great gifts if you have the money.

Well, don"t refuse it.

Only experience I have with Henry was a incident at a State 4-H shooting sports contest. Rifle in question kept jamming when contestant tried to load it - single shot wise. Immediately advised him to discontinue use of the gun, and borrow another for the duration. Gun in question was the 2 piece Henry .22 - the one that can be disassembled for carry, travel, etc. Was catching cartridge and actually bending, crimping cartridge in the middle.

As far as your winning, probably yopu will get a good one. Henry has a fairly good reputation. Im sure you will be happy with it, if not you can always trade it off!

I've got two of them and love them. They don't have the nicely fitted wood like an old Marlin lever action - but for a new shooter -great little guns.

First and foremost, do you remember entering such a raffle? If not, might be a scam. You're not a wanted fugitive are you? Every now and then, the law runs fake winners of raffles, and when they show up to pick up their gift, handcuffs and a ride to the clink. If none of that's you, read on.

Mom has a .22 lever action that I gave $100 for a few years ago. Nice little rifle holds like 15 longs. A week or so ago, Cabela's had same model on sale for $269.99. A 30.30 you say and you won it in a raffle and you are questioning it? Grab it. I was at an auction a couple of weeks ago where a real nice Winchester Model 94 went for $1,000. I quit bidding at about $575. I wanted it, not that bad. I'll cross paths with one again soon enough.

I've got a Henry .22. Super nice little rifle. The wife uses it a lot more than I do for woodchucks, coons and the like.

I have a Mod. 94 in 30/30 made before 1920 by serial number.
It's like new condition has never been reblued or any other thing. It's in perfect original condition.
I will let you have for $12,000
Not kidding.
Walt

HaHaHaHa. Good man, Walt. Good man.

I'm eying a Model 54 30.06 for $700. The bluing is good, the wood is good, and the bore is good. If it's still there in a couple of weeks, I will. If not, like the Model 94, I will run across one again.

John, that rifle would have been made by Uberti, not Henry. Henry doesn't make any Civil War replicas, nor anything in .44-40. Some of their guns superficially resemble the original Henry, but they are modern guns. On the other hand, the Uberti 1860 Henry is a reasonably accurate replica of the original, although chambered in "modern" centerfire cartridges, rather than the obsolete .44 rimfire. (Can I call a 146 year-old cartridge modern?)

I have the basic .22 Henry lever action (Model H001) and I like it a lot. Well made, quality firearm and a lot of fun to shoot. Smoooth action. I did replace the rear sight with a Skinner sight.

Bingo!!! I like my levers to have tang sights or a good quality peep sight. I have a Model 94 Legacy in .45 Colt with a Lyman tang sight on it.

really? the rcvr wasn't predrilled for the base for the cross bar for the pic or weaver mount?

I know they use a cantelevered mount on some models, and others have the base as part of the reciever.

is yours a very old one?

Checking their web site confirms that the GB's are predrileld and tapped or otherwise directly setup to use the cantelevered mount or regualr mounts.

the hornady 17 hmr uses the poly v-max tip.

Well i picked up the rifle last night!Seems to be a well made little rifle, its not the brass one though the all steel one which is fine with me.not real sure about all that brass on a deer rifle. Sure cant beat it for the price! ghost ring sight is quite a bit larger than i am used too,but i built two rifles this summer with reciever sights for brush guns so i know how they work, and have shot them for years. Sort of impressed with the factory checkering, and fit and finish on the stock looks good. It is drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and according to the little research i did last night ,336 marlin bases fit. Held it up side by side with my 336 and other than the action being slightly longer they look the same. Overall im really impressed so far,but the truths in the shooting as they say. First time i recall winning anything in my life, and until the guy called i had forgotten even entering. Raffle was to help the jr rodeo here. I try to help most of the kids programs out if i can, theres not a whole lot for kids to do in most rural okla towns. Sort of figure if it keeps one from running the streets, drinking beer or having babies its a good deal, but i never really expected to win anything. Wife even apologized for griping when i gave the kids who hit me up twenty bucks!! thats a REAL first.LOL thanks for all the replys, daughter in law gave my old 336 a workout shooting deer last year, this one might have to go to a grandaughter whos in the ROTC. She needs to do some shooting, and see a little of real life. Besides if them girls bring in enough meat, pops might just sit in front of the fireplace on those cold mornings!!!

youve got to be kidding! a winchester 94 for over a thousand? wow.. surely that was for a pre64,after that around here you couldnt give one away. best thing that ever happened to the marlin 336 was when winchester went overseas. the quality went right out the door, especialy on the 94. saw a nice pre 64 ,94 in 30-30 sell at a auction here for less than $500 a couple of weeks ago that was in good shape.maybe i need to start paying more attention.

Thanks for keeping me straight, Mark. I borrowed the gun for one reenactment, and that was years ago. I"m probably wrong on the caliber, too. I do remember how hard it was to catch the brass while shooting from the saddle!!
