510 JD, 3 cylinder diesel, German made engine

When problem first occurred replaced the head gasket a year & half or so ago,I torqued the head down,it ran fine for a while then I discovered more antifreeze in the oil.
Just took it apart again, the pistons are not washed. Some carbon on the top of one sleeve. The head looks good to the eye.I am taking it to a machine shop now for further analysis.
My question, does this tractor; an early 70's model I believe, have an oil cooler in the rad which might develop a leak allowing antifreeze into the oil side of the engine? or what other things should I suspect and look for here to find this leak? Thanks

The 310,510 and 710 were early 1960's vintage Lance 10 speed tractors. With a Saran France built 300 series Dubuque style engine. That engine family should have been used in the 1010 , 2010, 3010 and 3020.
Odds are that somebody didn't keep fresh antifreeze in the cooling system with active corrosion inhibiter. Sleeves are probably cavitated full of pin holes. O'rings could be rotten too.
Any chance you are located in Canada or a Northern US state? Or is that an European cab on there?

The 300 series Saran engines weren't used in the 1010 , 2010, 3010 and 3020 but the JD utility tractors that incorporated the 3 cyl engines such as 1020,1520,820,830 etc. I do agree that the cyl liners are probably causing the coolant in the oil.

You also could have a sleeve seal leaking. Before you tear the engine down reinstall the cylinder head. The get a coolant system pressure test tool/gauge. They screw on instead of the radiator cap and have a hand pump so you can pressurize the coolant system. After you have the system pressurized then remove the oil pan and look for water leaks. I have had more sleeve seal leaks than electrolysis problems on these engines.

What is the process for replacing or repairing the sleeves?
This tractor was built in Mannheim ,Germany.
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada

How are the parts prices on your side of the lake??? Just looked here and 3 complete sleeves with pistons, rings, and seals and an overhaul gasket set is 375 euro ($450+/-)...

Lord Tundering......yea be a Maratimer.
The Lance factory was located in Mannheim Germany and was purchased by and re-named Deere.
How much of a shop do you have, how handy are you, how much time and $ ? Is the tractor your primary source of power for your business? Or an odd jobs or hobby unit?
You could get $3-4 grand tied up in parts and machine shop fees. Lots of discoveries when splitting a tractor.
Time to sit down with pencil and paper. To calculate what the best short term and long term choices are.
The sale of the tractor and the 510 repair parts cost would go half way on the price of a tractor 30 years newer.

This JD tractor was made in Mannheim Germany.

Cost of repairs is certainly a big factor to me,thank you for offering your advice and parts/Machining costs to consider.

I take it the engine is toast;with the antifreeze leak,in its present condition, although it runs.

Any experience with a product called block weld which can be added to the antifreeze,I believe, for to repair this tractor, which is basically a driveway tractor only, for snow removal?

Do I have any other options to a costly engine rebuild?

Problem is the crank bearings maybe ruined with anti-freeze. Or they maybe ok?
Suppose you could do a couple of oil changes while running straight demineralized water and water glass from Canadian Tire. Then use Propylene Glycol antifreeze instead of Ethylene Glycol.
Propylene doesn't ruin bearings or poison pets if it leaks.
Maybe able to drive her till she drops for a few seasons?
The salvage yards are full of tractors and industrial equipment with three cylinder Dubuque/Mannheim/Saran engines.
