Round bale trailer

I know a guy that has a simple bale trailer that is just a long pipe about 8-10 in. down the middle with cross pipes for the bales to ride on and a single axle . He is not easy on it and has not had to do any repairs . There is no name on it and I have seen 2 otheres without names but they look to be shop made and not homemade . anybody know who makes these traiers , the ones I know of were bought used .

Lots of times these are shop made, so no way to know who built it or how to get one, short of making your own.

A few MFG's around here would be glad to make you one to what ever specs you want. One of them is Gruetts in Potter, WI.

I have two bale wagon bodies I made from guardrail posts and an old school bus frame. Cut the chassis and turned the ends up, then welded guardrail I-beam posts across the chassis. Then I welded another series of I-beam posts along the sides. The chassis was free, and the posts were from a construction company that removed them from a jobsite along a highway. The second wagon had a pair of pole braces under the guard rail posts instead of the bus chassis. Total cost was about $50 in welding rod. One is on a Gehl running gear, the other on a JD gear. Both will carry 11-4 1/2 x 4 bales and are able to be hitched in tandem, 22 bales a load.

Hey Don, how about a pic or 2. Been thinking about something similar. I need to move 5x5 bales. Was thinking 2 16ft timbers bolted to the gears, and 6 sucker rod perpendicular to carry 6 on the bottom and 2 on top in the valleys. Mine run around 1200 lbs each so need capacity for 6 tons plus the weight of the trailer.

I have a EZ Haul and I really like it. Bought it the last hour two and a half years ago at the Salina Farm Show. They were ready to deal so they did not have to tow it back to the dealer.
It will haul 7 round bales from a JD 568 baler. It is a right side dump and works very good. Tows excellent with a full load. You must have a raised ball in the truck bed.

The ones I have seen are purpose built, no running gear or anything just an axle welded to the carrier and then up front is a pair of wheels that pivot like a 5th wheel, really close together. No pictures of them.

Most guys around here just use flat racks, as they can be used for more than just hauling round bales. If they need to keep them from rolling off, they'll have a set of pockets on the front and back that they put in a removable board that will keep the bales on the wagon. Can still haul 11 bales on a flat rack, if not more, and not have to store one more piece of equipment.

If I need to use mine as a flat wagon, I can lay four sheets of plywood on them. See pics up above under 'bale wagons'.
