Electrical problem

I have an automatic dusk to dawn floodlight that blinks on and off all night. Not long ago I replaced the floodlight with a new one and the new one is blinking now. Is both floodlights defective or should I look elsewhere for the problem?

BTDT.....
Q) did you read the installation instructions?

Tip) read the installation instructions.

Tip) If you don't have them, you can find them online.

or) just go and buy another fixture.

I have them all around the house.... nice when they work!

it may be programmable. the ones i have have 3 settings that you activate with the on off switch. flip off-on once (1 second off) and it sets to motion on only. flip off on again, goes to 1/2 power on until motion is detected , then to full bright. flip off on once more and goes to a steady blinking, that is for an emergency so fire/police can locate the house.

ulb type? Mercury vapor, sodium, halogen, CFL, incandescent?

I had the same problem, light was reflecting off of the white sofit, I put an extension on the photocell and that solved my problem. Just a thought??

Is it mounted to a pole or on the side of a building??? If on a building good chance it has a reflection off the building causing the sensor to try to turn it off then back on if so you have to find way to blacken the area close to it. Easy way to check would be to tape or pin black plastic bags behind and around it. If the problem goes away you know what the problem is. If it stays check all connection because one or more maybe loose and heating up and causing a problem

The light is mounted on the facial of the house aimed outward toward the yard with nothing to reflect the light back. It does have indecasent floodlight bulbs in it. Both lights worked properly at first and then started going on and off all night.

What color is the house??? Any light color can/will reflect light back and can cause that but yes if the sensor is extra sensitive that could also be the problem

The color is red brick. The light and sensor is aimed out to the yard where there is nothing to reflect the light back.

I would bet that the light is picking it's own light up and shutting off. Then goes back on after it is off. Like one of the others posted. make a tunnel/shield around the electric eye/photo cell. See if that helps. The pole light type have it where you can rotated the photo cell so it is pointing north to work better.
