I went to the Walnut, IL. corn pickers reunion at Kevin Larkeys' place last weekend. Last I heard there were 43 pickers there and Kevin had 50 acres of wide row to pick.
Took my Super 77 and United Farm Tools/Oliver #5 picker and old Ficklin 165 Gravity wagon. Had'nt used the gravity in about 10 years but it went O.K. and NO rust holes!

Thanks for the nice pics.

We had an old guy in the neighborhood who would take his old wife to the field with him when he was picking. Her job was to pick up the ears that he'd spit out on the headlands as he made his turns. The poor old gal would have bushel baskets sitting all over the place that she'd filled with those "headland turn" ears. When one of the other neighbors asked (in her presense) why he didn't turn it off as he made the turns, they had to restrain her from working her husband over. It was probably a touchy subject around that house for quite a while.

Thanks for posting the pictures! I was at Kevin's as well. I looked at your picker a few times as I have never seen a UFT picker before. Was that built in Oelwein Iowa?

Unfortunately I forgot my camera and did not get pictures. But to my luck Kevin loaned me his and I was able to get some shots for him as he was too busy to do so.

The Walnut corn picking day is held every other year in Walnut Illinois on Kevin Larkey's farm. All brands of pickers are brought in along with some different shellers, wagons, etc. The show is well put together and is a great time.

I will attach a link to the corn picker forum that has some more pictures.

Jim,
White Motor Co. bought Oliver in 1960. in the late 60"s as the farm economy slid, they started having $ problems and sold off the hay line (720 baler) and UFT bought the rights to the #5 picker. Started building them around 1970 as far as I know, but by then there wasn"t much demand for pickers any more. They were built in Miswsouri by Calhoon MFG. co.
