As I previously stated I'm just asking.Granted drilling and welding a fitting in old filter cover is cheaper.

In an earlier post titled [JD3010 hydraulic port filter cover} you stated the recess in trans case for 10 & 20 series RC tractor was different and a ported filter cover wouldn't fit.

My question is this: If the hyd filter bolt and hyd filter are common for the 10 & 20 & 30 series RC tractors and a ported filter cover is listed for a 30 series how can hyd ported filter cover not work on 10 or 20 series??
Thank you,Jim

Here's a parts photo from 4230 PC with bolt R54750

I just copied how JD did it on the industrial models and ran the return back into where the rockshaft return pipe returns to a fitting near the filter cover.

I'm aware of teeing into rockshaft oil return line for hyd control valve return oil. I was just trying to get JDseller to clarify his statement that a ported filter cover will not work on a JD 10 or 20 series rowcrop tractor such as a 3020.
Thanks,Jim

TXJim: The cover T31170 was never made for the JD 3020 and JD 3010 tractors. It was used mainly on the Mannheim designed tractors. Then they did offer it for use in the JD 30 and 40 series tractors WITH adapter spacer #7. That was to make the stack height the same.

Why I never have seen or used the adapter setup.

#7 spacer/adapter part# R66068 $204.15
#5 ported cover Part# T31170 $196.47

Now to your original question. The bolt is used in different tractors because the total stack height is the same. They have different covers to fit the different transmission recess. If you put a T31170 on a JD 3020 the cover is the wrong depth to work right. It is too tall so the filter is not sealed. Plus the bolt number R65894 was not used on the JD 3020 or JD 3010. Only the JD 4020 under 205000-. Then in a bunch of other later model tractors. This bolt is used with different covers.

Truthfully I never wasted enough time to figure all the different covers/bolt/filters out. I just usually drilled and tapped a hole in the cover and called it good enough. Most customers we had would have had a cow if we put close to $500 in just getting a return ported cover on a tractor.

About the only time I used a factory ported cover was if the tractor already had one.

Also I never welded a fitting to the cover. Just drill and tape 3/4 x 16 hole and screw the fitting in.

AS I previously stated my question has nothing to do with the "high cost of a ported filter cover" but rather will it work/not work on a 10 or 20 series RC tractor. I think it will work and you state it won't work. This not about arguing but accurate information. All I'm searching for is PROOF.

You brought up a bolt part number(R65894 11" long)that was used on high filtration kits(longer filter) and PS trans. The bolt(R54750 8.5" long) I was referring to is a common part # between 3020/4020 & 4230 plus others and is listed as the bolt for a ported filter cover. If the bolt(R54750) is common to the above mentioned tractors and the hyd filter(AR75603) is common and the filter cover(R39796) then how can the recesses in trans be different and where did you get this information???
Thank you for any clarification,Jim

BTW according to my search in pc 1116 there's no sn break on the R65894 bolt at 205,000 for a 4020
