Bentley is gone, stolen, but now we have Lola.

I called the animal shelter on the slim chance the people that took Bentley turned him in to the animal shelter. They didn't, but the shelter said they had a basset that someone had brought in that would be up for adoption on Thurs, Oct. 18.

I had already planned to take some vacation and went to the farm on Wed eve.

Thurs morning I talked James into going to the shelter and looking at the dog. He agreed especially since that shelter is not a no-kill shelter.

They brought "Lola" out and we liked her. We adopted her, took her to the vet to get some shots, then home to the farm. Shelter "chipped" her and we've ordered tags with her name and our phone number.

She has settled right in. Decided to let her have house privileges. Thurs evening James came in and sat down on the couch. Lola hopped right up and curled up next to him.

She has turned out to be a real pleasure and very well behaved. She's not 100% basset, but other than her nose being smaller, she has all the looks of a basset.

We couldn't be more pleased.

James will take pics and post.

Now the house is back to normal.

Good for you!!! I always have some dogs and cats around. They just are good company. We have some in the house as well. Not much difference between having the kids in the house or pets they all make a little mess. That is what makes a home.

We have a beagle harrier that is a total cuddle bunny. If you set or lay down he is going to snuggle up to you. He is as lazy as a slug. LOL I bet he sleeps 20 hours a day. HE will take a few laps running full bore around the yard and then he done for the day. LOL. I am not sure who has who trained here. He gets all his meals free and a warm bed and heat. So who is the dumb dog in this???

Great to hear ! really something how big a hole a little dog can make in a life ..glad it worked out .

Good for you... A visible collar and an "I'm chipped" tag on it may be a good idea. Also, there is a place online that you can register the chip number so that it is available (can be checked) worldwide. If she comes up missing and hits a shelter, vet, or just someone with a scanner, they can go to a site, punch in the number, and see who she belongs to...

Glad to hear and congratulations. There are a few rescue groups for Bassetts so it's not that hard to find another Bassett ready to smell. I keep telling Mrs. Wisbaker that we need another Bassett so Miss Dixie Belle has a playmate, so far I haven't been to successful, she seems to feel one Bassette is quite enough. Of course when I mentioned I'd like to have 4 bassetts to hook on a dog sled wheel rig I think she's worried about Bassett creep.

A home is not a home unless it has a dog or two.
Kids grow up and usually have their own homes, but a dog will be with you 24/7. When our Chow Taz was diagnosed with stomach cancer I was heart broken, so we bought Sugarbear another Chow pup. We call her Sug for short. Hal

My former neighbor had a Bassett and he would climb the chain link fence. We have three cats too. Hal
PS: I grow my garden plants on those shelves. I cat proof it when the plants sprout. I made it from scrap lumber and used leftover acrylic sheeting. I took it down for a few years until my wife said I should leave it up.

Congradulations on your new dog. I still have "Pepper" my Cocker Spaniel. He"s 14yr. old ,..but still pretty good for his age. He is at the vet as we speak for a check up and have his foot looked at. Got"a love"em. They are indeed part of the family.

Looks pretty high-strung, but I'm sure she'll settle down! ;>)

Glad you found her- I've never been "dog free", and don't think I want to be.

We mostly have cats (they just sort of... show up, ya know? Keep the mice down and are quite friendly although a bit skittish). This girl has been around for about 10 years now.
