IH 656 won't start

I have a IH 656 gas tractor that when I went to use it yesterday it would run for a few seconds then quit. If I pulled out the choke it would run for a for more seconds but then it would still quit. I disconnected the fuels lines and blew them out and now it seems to have gas flowing well to the carb. However now I can't get the tractor to start. It turns over but doesn't fire. Do I need to do something since I disconnected the fuel lines etc..

If its anything like a 544s Carb, check the little screen that screws into the carburetor. Make sure you Teflon tape it before you put it back in. Hope this helps

The fuel shut off selenoid may be staying closed stopping the fuel at the carb. i have a 756 gas that the previous owner burned up (failure to disconnect the battery) while they tried to clean/change the sediment bowl and gas tank. It would run awhile with the choke out then die. Replaced the fuel shut off -no more trouble, but I still has to replace wiring and seat after the fire.
Let us know what you find.

Take plug out of bottom of carburetor to see if fuel flows as needle and seat may be stuck closed. If stuck, just rap carb with a plastic screw driver handle. If fuel does flow ok, then it may well be the electric shut off but normally if that does not work it will not start or run at all.
