Rats.......

Within 100 yards of our place is a farmer with hogs, another with pretty much everything (dairy cows, a few slaughter steers, chickens, rabbits, ducks, and geese, couple with just poultry of several types, and most all have pidgeons. Nextdoor (20+/- feet) neighbor had 6 dogs and 5 goats. Small stream goes thru the middle of town. Rats are expected but...... Aside from an occassional mouse, we've been pretty pest free...
Neighbor moved out next door so the place is empty (no food source). Now, we have rats everywhere... Sleek, shiney, healthy looking rats that are smart and brave.... Not just one or two either... Almost like the neighbor was feeding them.... Already have a barrel cut/rigged for a trap, see how many I have in the morning.....
 
A neighbor told us that if you have rats and you know where they
are living you can drive them away by catching a rat in a trap and
then burning the carcass by the hole entrance. We have not tried
this ourselves.

I live next to a commercial building-was a Pizza Hut till about 1995. When they moved out I could not believe how many more mice I had!
 
We had a run of rats in our rabbit barn. Tried trapping, etc. not much luck. What seemed to be the most attractive and deadly waas a rat bate called "BLUE DEATH." We tried others with less success.
 

I've seen some pretty nasty ones along the little stream that runs thru town.. These are almost pretty they are so healthy.... I've got some of that blue stuff and some throw bags, just don't like the idea of poisoning them and they die/stink somewhere that I can't get to them..... Gonna see how many I can get in the barrel traps and drown them. Poison as a last resort....
 
Put out some rat bait,works 24/7. these rodents attract SNAKES.
Inconsiderate neighbour, leaving them behind.
 
Zack's idea is a good one for halloween night... wearing orange robes and carrying torches..after you ask the insurance man...
Dave 2, you are always ordering stuff from the states, now you need to find a mail order coyote.
 
Bendee, you must remember they invented civilization over where Dave lives, hasn't been snakes or wolves in 1000 years... which is why they have so many rats, and now and then rat carrying plagues and pestilances.... kinda like the 'a pox-eclipse' Savanna was on about in beyond the thunderdome...
 
Shoot a bunch, skin them and make a big pot pie. Invite the neighbors over and tell 'em you've been squirrel hunting. Old American tradition.....
