There should be a time when seniors are left alone to enjoy their life in peace without worrying about being preyed on by people. Sadly, that is not the case. Gerald Gebhard, 88 and Sue, 80, have been robbed twice in two weeks.
Two weeks ago burglars broke into their garage and removed 3 pedal tractors from their collection. The Gebhard collect and show things, it’s a hobby that makes life fun, and interesting in their golden years.
Yesterday, during the night hours, someone broke into their garage again, and removed 15 more pedal tractors, the reminder of the collection valued at approx. $25,000 according to Mr. Gebhard. It was a blow to the solar-plexes of this couple as much as if the burglars had physically assaulted them. The robbers stole more than the tractors, they took this couples feeling of safety and security in their home.
If you have any information on this event, please call the Boscobel Police Dept. at 608-375-4122.
Update - The descriptions of the tractors are as follows: 1, McCormick 560 (red), 1, McCormick Farmall 400 IH (all original with faded red paint), 1, Case 1070 (white & red), 1, Allis Chalmers (red), 2, John Deere (green & Yellow), 1, White (gray & white), 1, Kubota (orange), 1, Ford BN (red & gray), 1, Ford 8000 (blue), 1, Oliver 1755 (green), 1, Oliver 70 (green), 1, Farmall M (red), 2, Massey Ferguson (red & gray), 1, Massey Ferguson 44 (red & gray), 1, Massey Ferguson 35 (red & gray), and 1, New Holland Nuffield (blue).

The level of "rotteness" never ceases to amaze me when it comes to people. Those have to be unique, given what they are, kind of like artwork, going to be hard to sell, especially all of them at once, someone may notice and they will get caught trying to sell them, because right now all they have is a pile of tin, hopefully like most thieves, they'll do something stupid and get nailed.

Thieves have no respect for age. We experience that first hand here in AZ, where you have to have your wits about you or the crooks will rob you blind. The scams that they try to pull will leave you broke if you let them get to you.

I'm amazed at how careless some people are right here in our own neighborhood - - they buy a new TV or appliance and then set the carton out of the curb to tell the whole world what they have in their house. I always cut up the cartons and put them in the recycle dumpster out of sight. Very few people know what we have in our house because we don't show it to the world.

They really are not hard to sell. Go to another town, find a pawn shop who doesn't play by the rules. Or go on craigslist after things cool down. We just had a pawn shop busted for selling stolen items.

The thiefs know where to ge to make money. This is why I refuse to buy anything from a pawn shop.

People don't care how old someone is just stealing for money to buy dope. Several year ago someone ask me who stayed with my mom whet I was at work she was 90 at the time before I could say anything the one neighbor told him if anything happen or the house got broken it to he would have the hold town on his a** not one question about the subject anymore we maybe redneck but we take care of each other

These aren't just theives. They are in the tractor hobby most likely. Otherwise why would they take them and nothing else? They know their value.
I feel very sorry for the couple. I know what it's like to have someting stolen and your privacy comprimised. I'm sure they feel the filth these intruders left behind also. This is how a woman feels after being raped.
This always makes a person wonder if the intruders will be back. The whole truth is these items won't help these intruders at all.
Let's pray for couple's safety...

the papers, radio, pawn shops and cops ect for a hundred mile radius needs to be informed [ the local cops will usually do the pawn shops] also any tractor shows and swap meets scheduled need to have somebody looking, thieves only know these things have value, so they will be trying to sell them to somebody in that area 90% of the time, usually to get money for their dope habit, if they can find just 1 or 2 they can get a line on these scum, and hopefully recover the rest of the items, that much value there going to do some time hopefully, and become "bubba's" new best friend i can understand how they feel, i had a freind who lost 7 fully restored full size tractors along with 3 vehicles in a major wildfire, he's 82, and his homeowners insurance refused to cover the loss

They know or have shown the collection to a visitor lately. This is the thief. Strangers and low lifes don't steal things like this. And yes, they are in the 'hobby' too.... Twice in two weeks? Look at relatives.

Makes a guy think public floggings and hangings where not so bad. If the economy gets much worst you will have to have guard your stuff 24/7 with fire arms. The court system is so soft on real crooks today that the crooks don't fear being caught anymore.

That collection will be hard to replace as many of those tractors are very rare. I hope they have some insurance to at least help out on the financial side. Plus an insurance company can help keep the pressure on the cops to keep looking for the crooks.

That's too bad, hope somehow they can get them back?? With $25,000 left in toy tractors, I hope they think about an alarm system!

JDseller,

You said it!

That the crooks don't fear on being caught. I knew one guy that was always hauled in for fighting. He said, "they don't do anything to you anyway if they do chatch you!"

I think Public Descrimination may be the thing to help stop such people. Because they sure are lacking attention in some form or another!

Best thing that you can do is get a wildlife camera put it up in the garage where they can't grab and run with it. Set for flash that scare them away and also get a nice picture of who they are. I used one on my Xmas tree stand really stopped the theft.

You can get one for under $50

Not tellin my age, but I can remember NOT locking the doors or takin the keys out of the car. Last year they broke into dads house (he's 89). Didn't take
anything, broad daylight, sheriff thinks dad scared 'em off when he came home from the doctor....

My car sets on the street across from or around the corner from the house unlocked with the key in the ignition and always something of value laying on the seat somewhere..... Have even forgot my wallet overnight.....

Times are a changin.....they got dads safe open (a cheap
one) but didn't take anything. You read about these things or
see it on TV, but until it happens to you - it's just statistics

Just a week or two before Christmas they broke into my daughter's house & took the presants from under the tree but left the tree.

heard recently of 15 high dollar quarter horses being stolen from the quarter horse congress here in Ohio.all they knew was they were headed south on I71.

stealing seems to come in waves around here. a few druggies will come from another county and break in houses, steal tools, guns, atvs, small equipment, etc... for a little while and disappear. We are lucky to live in a place that has one way in and one way out and is far off the road so it is not an easy target for thieves. Our family lives in different houses on the same farm and we have varying schedules so it is hard to tell if one of is home or not, so we have been luckier than some of our neighbors. Thieves are the scum of the earth, but I'm glad to say that the local law enforcement has been good at catching them lately and it is not happening as much. It will probably pick up some though as Christmas nears.
