This months weather!

Weather sure has been strange around here, we go down to 29 degrees back up to the 60s. Up and down like a yoyo! Looks like most guys got there corn chopped, not as muddy as last year, some of the fields looked plowed from all the chopper ruts! It's been showers on and off all month, so I think in done with trying to make any mulch hay. Weather sure has been mild during the days thought.
Only used a couple wheelbarrows of wood so far, but around here that can change fast.

We got caught up on rain again, sooner or later and most years, its not uncommon from what I recall, to just expect a rainy season. Last year we got nailed by tropical storms, got it all at once, then it dried out, I could moldboard plow in early December, problem is, that was fine, but all the roads and bridges washed out, not so good!

Thing that gets me is how the rain destroys tomato crops, I had a later planting, lush green, loaded with tomatoes, just enough time to ripen, I've done it in other years right up to December on the hill side against the foundation of my house, since Sept. 27th, that week of high humidity, intermittent rain, and its rained almost daily with a few exceptions, those tomatoes were done, I need a roll out roof !!

We live in an area of conflict, tropical air from the south, and cold dry air from the north, whether it meets here or further west, how many fronts have we seen come across since this summer, that stretch way south, to way up in Canada, sometimes they miss us, theres a hole in the middle or we get a direct hit, last fall winter and spring was the calmest I can recall, just a turbulent area sometimes and as dry as it can get, I can't ever recall a time where the rains did not return in the fall, and a dry spell from the summer continued, thats a blessing in comparison to where folks are suffering long droughts, regardless, it seems to be a safe place to live, always a conversation about it too, I just wonder what happens when the temperatures drop and if those patterns continue, could add up to a lot of snow, bring it on I'm ready, starting on next years wood shortly.

I agree with you! I don't know if you read Country Folks? But the guy that writes the crop comments colum said the same thing, in different words. Were caught in a jet stream from the west and something coming up from
The south, maybe elnino, low pressure, I cant remember,, but were caught right were they meet! Lol, seems to me, we are staying milder at the end of the year, but the spring seems colder longer, maybe its just me.??

Yep odd here also. Been down below freezing a night or 2 a week or so ago then yesterday it was in the low 80s and now calling for rain again the temps down is the upper 30s at night. This it just the prep for the 12-22-2012 thing LOL

I don't recall ever reading or hearing about that publication, where can you access it, on the web, printed matter sold on the news rack ?

I kind of observe and make mental notes about what I see, it interests the heck out of me for some reason. Living in this area you learn to roll with the punches, we get some excess rain at in opportune times, as we both know with doing hay, gardens, being able to get into the woods for firewood logs, its a matter of taking advantage when you can, use those times effectively to get ahead, which seems to be the game we have to play, still a safe and generous place we live when you really think about it.

Its hard to disagree with the weather staying milder in the fall, then winter kicking in, 'cept for last winter, what a bonus, darned black flies, gnats were awful though, apple blossoms were hit hard, maple sugaring must have been nuts being so out of sequence. Fall of '10 was not too bad, but once that winter weather kicked in, that was one wicked nasty unrelenting winter, I wished I was more prepared. It was amazing that it really was a real winter and a real spring, snowpack stayed a long time, temps in the 20's right through much of April. That reminded me of what winter and spring was like when I was younger, but I'm also aware of the patterns where it stays like that, then changes, its never dull (not the brass polish LOL !)

That would drive me nuts for archery season, (80 deg F) well now I suppose when its warm one had just better be prepared to butcher ones deer immediately after the kill, knowing that when you go out, easy part is usually the kill as we all know, I sure as heck like it right in the mid to high 20's to cool that meat down while you work, which is more prevalent in rifle season around here.

That end of the world thing, what does a person say or think about that, we shall find out won't we ?

Meanwhile, back at the "bat cave" (hint) I don't suppose circling that crop of tractors you have growing in a more strategic pattern and gathering up your most trusted friends, family, maybe some YT'er's ? LOL ! somewhere in or around that natural cavernous feature existing nearby would help ward off the evil spirits if'n they was to show up, no shooting through the tractors either, we might need the parts if we survive or make it into the next world LOL !!!! PS, I don't know where I come up with this stuff, been home sick and just getting outside today since Sat, sure is nice out today, think I'll sit in my stand and ponder the above a little more, take a few photos, watch the deer, "aint got" enough energy to cut one up tonight though !
