diesel fuel additive?

Just had a problem with the injection pump sticking shut on our 1440 after sitting for a few months. IH mechanic said it was about the third one he knew of. Maybe related to the fuel. I know very well about gas an stabil. What are any of you guys running in your diesel fuel?

Sea Foam has cleared up a few running issues I've had in gas and diesel engines. It can't preform miricales, but it does something.

2cycle oil from Walmart in the gallon jug. My JD4320 would, after running it working, idle down and fade away till it would stall. Only way to restart it was 1) let it cool or 2) take the cover of the Ipump work the linkage and start it. Added 2cycle and no more problems.

Guy on Fordtruck.com did a test running various additives, Lucus, Power Service, engine oil, atf. and the 2 cycle added the most mileage. This was on a 94-97ps Ford daily driver.

I use Startron Starbright. Contents are on the MSDS on the www. Main functioning ingredients are enzymes that attack the diesel algae, just like some detergent manufacturers use enzymes to get the dirt out of your clothes.

I store diesel in 55 gallon drums and upon checking the bottom of a tank I emptied a couple of months ago, all I saw in the bottom 1" or so remnants was a clear red (dye) liquid.

Tractors run great....but I do have a final filter on my fuel line too.

A friend of mine was an Allis Chalmers dealer for over 40 years and he told me to put a quart of ATF in the tankful of diesel on my tractors..ATF has an afinity for moisture and it will remove waqter from the fuel system and it will lube the pump. A quart of oil will lube the pump as well, afterward you can use less and not every tankful needs a quart of ATF
OIl added to the fuel givesthe fuel more potential enrgy so its win-win

Drain the water off of the seperator or sight bowl when you see any... and keep the filter changed at least annually. I don't add anything. If you've got something sticking, it's from rust, caused by water. Eliminate the source of the problem.

I agree with Rod , keep the whole system clean and you shouldn't have issues, unless your running someones crappy bio fuel.

The biodiesel itself shouldn't cause a problem either... but it will create some headaches if you put it into a dirty system. It tends to loosen up and clean out a lot of crap itself. Once it's done cleaning it should be OK...

I've tested all the fuel treatments that I've been able to find, including lucus, k100, diesel kleen, ect. They all work for antigelling but I've never noticed any improvement in the pump or injectors accept for the Motorkote fuel optimiser. I've used this in my truck for several years now. My injectors are getting week with nearly a million miles on them and the engine will start missing. The Motorkote will stop the missing within a few miles of putting it in the tank. I don't use it on every tank tho. I'll use it for 2-3 tanks in a row then I can skip it for a month or so. So I'll treat about 6-900 gallons then run about 4-5000 gallons without it.

Interesting. For a year I ran an OTR "rock bucket" with an 800 cu in. 400 HP big block Cummins just to do it. I put like a quart of ATF to each 100 gallon tank every time I filled up. This was in the '92 time frame and diesel was $1 per gallon. Worked for me.
