Before i ask the question i have regarding my tractor i would like to comment on the responses to Larry's post a few days ago. it is really heartening to read the compassion and concern you all had for the man. we could use alot more of that in our world. i applaud all of you!!
a few weeks ago i posted a question regarding a JD 1010w gas i had just purchased. someone responded and told me which model combines had engines that would fit in this tractor. have not had any luck finding a good used engine. decided to price out a new deck plate and piston kit, no luck either. can anyone tell me what supplier would be a good place to start. tried this website, they are trying to locate one.
one last tidbit; discovered a website containing info i think collector and farmer types might be interested in. the web address is; www.californiansshrugged.org. watch the video and if you think the info is important please pass it on to your friends and relatives.
thanks in advance for your help.

Your in for a big back pocket hurt on that one. Last I checked just the set of sleeves where over $500 and that did not include pistons or any thing else. I have a 1010 parts tractor here and learned back when we first got it that parts are hard to come by and if you do find them your looking at a big hurt to the back pocket. By the way I found the parts at a J-D dealer but even to get them would be special order and take a long time

The sleeve-deck has never been available aftermarket. John Deere only.

Gas sleeve-deck is part # AT12215. $1236 from Deere.

Unless your's is real bad - I'd hone it, rebuild the pistons and re-ring. Low compression gas engine is much more forgiving then a high-compression diesel.

1010s with high hours just about always have worn out top piston grooves. You can recut the top grooves and repair with a Hastings repair kit. It's cheap. I've fixed many 1010s that way.
Deere used to offer .020" over pistons so you could bore out an old deck to oversize. No longer offered. Just standard. The .020" over pistons were # T15912

If you were to rebuild with all new parts from Deere you'd need . .

Sleeve deck - AT12215 $1236
Pistons (4) - T13057 $180 each, $724 total
Rings - AT14700(2 sets needed), $144, $288 total
Head gasket - AT16542, $44
Deck gasket - AT16541, $52

Then you'd probably want main and rod bearings, valves, etc. Some of that is available aftermarket.

For other engines? There are no other Deere engines that match what the 1010 gas uses. It's only 115 cubic inches. There ARE engines that will fit in but will be more powerful.

1010 gas is 115 cubic inches.
1010 diesel is 144 cubic inches.
2010 gas is 144 cubic inches.
2010 diesel is 165 cubic inches.

Any of these will bolt in.

Also - here are some combine and power unit engines that will fit in.

“H” is “Harvester Works, “T” is “Dubuque”,
“G” is “gasoline” and “L” is “LP gas.”
Some 45 Combines have Hercules JX-4C-3
180 Power Unit (PC1022) is not a 1010/2010 type engine

Deere 45 combine engines:
145 Power Unit ({PC537)
165 Power Unit (PC667)
155 Power Unit (PC624)
165 Power Unit (PC667)

HA-155D sleeveless engine used in 45 combine
HB-145L
HB-145G
TA-145G
TA-145L
HA-165D - diesel used in 45 combine - ser # 45-2996 - 45-46000)
HA-165G - gas used in 45 combine - ser # 45-35001 - 45-46000
HB-165D - diesel used in 40 combine
HB-165G - gas used in 111 peanut combine

How much piston to cylinder wall clearance ? How much ring gap? Is this tractor used to make your living, an odd jobs tractor or a collector piece for parades?
Extreme tractor parts will program the CNC machine to turn out any over size and compression pistons pyou want for probably just the price of standard factory pistons.

I have been told the deck plate is no longer avaible but the one for the 145 engine is ans with new 145 pistons will fit right in and give you about 10 more horsepower. But then the deck plate prefered is from the 165 engine and for that there are a few points that have to be bored for it to fit but doing that you would have a approximatly 55 horse tractor instead of the 35 it was new. It was a combine- tractor and other machinery parting out place that told me this a few years ago.

If you decide to pull the deck for whatever reason, be very careful so you don't crack a sleeve from the deck if you want to reuse it.
