Calling it Quits for 2012

Baled the last hay for 2012 today here in s.w. Pa. Yesterday a little field of 4th cutting, today a little field of first heavy stuff. Started May 17, finished Oct 13; 11,000 little squares, 100+ rounds; most of the squares hauled 53 per load on my pickup truck. All in all, a pretty good year even tho we had a real dry June. At one point in early July, figured no second cut or third. Then the rains came. Actually, a little more warm weather & I could find more third & second fields, but I'm not looking!

Finished last year on November10 just to start this year on May 8 th wrapped those bales though. Always thought doing hay was a summer thing but once I started doing it for myself quickly found out it is not.

Sounds like you need to buy a gooseneck for bales. Or an old running gear and build a hayrack. 50 some on the PU and pull another 120.

A lot. Home farm 80 acres, most cut twice, some three cuts. Other farms up to two miles from barns where trucks with light loads & quick journeys work well. I'm the guy with a half dozen fields so steep that the square bales roll off the hill. Probably only 130-140 acres total, most cut twice.
