OT/flourescent tube

Real frustrating. Seems 8ft flourescent bi-pin tubes have fallen off the face of the earth. Need to replace a couple in our tractor bay.

Spent over an hour this morning on the internet searching. Only ones I found were $104.00 each!

Seems some of those type of bulbs have been pulled from the market(Thank our 'wonderful' government). They are to be replaced with a newer "energy efficent" Higher output"bulb (read expencive). You're gonna need to replace the fixture, too.

Big stores use them.I would look there.Ask the manager.Ive seen so many in one store , it was impossible to count them.I was interested in electric use.I buy 4 foot tubes for 1.00 each. They have 8 foot tubes I will look at the price next time.Ebay has some real ripoff prices.
199 bucks for an Eico meter that sells for 20 bucks or less.

I just looked at Home Depot. They have a box of 16 for $128. So that would only be $8 each. They may have them in smaller quantities but I did not take the time to look much more.

I wonder if the $104 price you found was for a box of 12-16 of them??? Also check the local Ace hardware store. My local one has them separately. I think I gave ten bucks each last week for some.

Ikea quit selling incandescent bulbs quite awhile ago and just announced that they are going to discontinue selling Fluorescent bulbs -in the future they will only sell LED bulbs.

Don't know if they will sell fluorescent tubes or if there will be an LED replacement for those.

Volume ought to bring down the price of LED bulbs anyway.

You can find all kinds of 4 ft and shorter, with the bi-pin (two prongs), but not 8ft.

Will probably have to replace the fixture.

The conversion kits are pretty cheap, and they do not require taking the fixture down. I have the newer style in my shop.

the 8' bulbs are all T-12 (12/8's of an inch or 1 1/4" diameter) All T-12s are targeted for phase out, under the original program they should already be gone but the phase out has been extended. Didn't use many 8' bulbs when I was with the county, I have some at Church in the garage and on our sign but they are the single pin on each end, Menard's still carries them. We lost a ballast in one of the garage fixtures and I was able to buy a new 4' fixture for less than the ballast. The new bulbs are T-8 or T-5 (1 inch in diameter or 5/8 of an inch) they have better efficiency or produce more lumens for each watt of energy used. Unfortunately the folks that designed the new bulbs and the bureaucrats that mandated these bad boys don't know squat about people, the new bulbs are more efficient but they also put out less light per tube, so if you do a one for one retrofit the office occupant brands you as the no good %$#*& that's stealing her light AND all these energy programs do is reduce the level of service provided, then you get a Union grievance, seems if you're a member of AFSCME or an elected official the law doesn't apply to you, or in short the facilities guy takes it in the shorts again. Be careful of the LED especially retrofit kits, their efficiency is not as good as the high efficiency T-8's and not much better than the standard T-8. The LEDs are being pushed on us because they're cool and high tech, but if you need a light source of any size the efficiency drops off as you stack 100 LEDs in a fixture. I've used a few LED bulbs for some of the accent and security lights at the church and they seem to be doing well, no complaints and I'm not replacing them twice a year so they might of been worth the $20/bulb they cost. Oh the LEDs last like forever so we'll be laying off the people that change light bulbs and further increasing our unemployment.

Nancy here is a link to the page that shows the 8 ft. two prong T-12: Model number #422774 and Internet# 203466580 this is a Phillips 75 watt bulbs. It is a box of 15 for $76. Maybe you can order them on line???

I know they have them up here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. All of my shop lights use these bulbs.
Home Depot 8 ft. T 12 bulb

$104 sounds like the price for a case of ten of the newer hi output tubes.. Be aware that there different two pin ends that come on 8' T12 flourescent tubes. I have some older magnetic ballast fixtures that use a bi pin; two pins that stick out on each end. My newer 8' electronic ballasted fixtures, which are only a few years old, use a tubes with a "plug" on each end, which contain two pins..

I have 7 of these newer electronic ballasted 8' fixtures in my shop.. Two bulbs per fixture at 110 watts per bulb.. 1540 watts of "Instant on" lite, with no flickering or humming. $104 for a case of ten of these sounds close..

I am happy with these lite fixtures.. But If I was going to replace them today,, I would be looking at fixtures that use the 4' T8 bulbs(1"diameter)

Finding bi pin 8' T12 tubes (older style)in the stores may be like finding a pair of 9-32 tires for an H John Deere

The description did not say case.

I've found the single pin and the ones with the "plug" covering the two pins, but can't find the old style with just two pins.

Will probably wind up changing the fixture.
