OT: Hey tractor vet - car for ya

Ya put me on the spot. Whether to go ahead and purchase the new Honda jet that I just ordered, or cancel and bid on the "Cuda. LOL

I have the article from MoPar Action Magazine
around here somewhere. It should bring at least
750,000.00, a four speed car sold for 2 mil a few
years ago.

Yep they were nice , The one dealership i worked for got one in in Hemi Orange with a 4 gear. . Myself i never cared much for a Hemi for a street engine . way tomuch hassle with them with valve adjustments keeping the carbs set . Now the 440 6pac. when set wright would make hemi owners take notice . I use to do the tuning on a hemi for a guy that had a 69 charger and every three months i would have to run the valves do the points and readjust the carbs then take it for a test drive. BUT if i could have any car that i wanted it would be my old 68 Plymouth road runner and here again it was one of only 7 made in the color and that had the same equipment and my second choice would be the 69 Road runner that i ordered in and never took .

Not sure. I bought a 68 Cuda fastback, Formula S 4 speed, Hi-Po 383, in Dec 67. Sticker was 3700.
And better yet, I still got it!

I worked for a Chrysler Plymouth dealer and i paid billing invoice . My 68 cost me just a shade north of 1500 my 71 Duster 340 that was the show and test car that every car magazine tested before i got it with 857 mils and a bald set of back tires stickered for 34something and change cost me 2150 .

Yeah, TV, that was a "slightly" exaggerated statement, made in fun. If I had the money I would not bid on it either! While I like those old cars, if I were able, and wanted something in that style, I would just buy a new Challenger.

I was over visiting with and old coworker and friend at the one Dodge dealership near me the other day and they had one setting next to his desk. It had the 392 hemi with a six speed in a rag top . . BUT i would still like a NEW 68 Road Runner that ya could work on with no computer no anti loc brakes no air bags no powerful steering no power brakes no power winders no power seats just a am-fm radio and maybe A/C and a four gear with a posi rear with 3.23 gears. and a plain OLD 383 and the gas to run it on. And all ya need for tools you could carry in a tote box along with a timing lite. A spare set of points in the glove box a set of plugs in the trunk and you were good to go.

T.V., I am with you on that one! When you raised the hood you could actually SEE the engine! You didn't have to remove a ton of junk before you could even get to it. Wife's cousin had a 69 Road
Runner with a three speed in the floor. Nice little car. There is a retired school teacher who lives about 5 mi. from me who has a 69 Charger that she bought new. She parked it about ten years ago, Under a shed but the tail end sticks out and I was by there a few days ago and it looked like one of the tires is flat. I guess I need to call her and tell her if she don't cover it up and jack it up off the ground, she gonna de-evaluate it.

i miss my '69 GTS with the 440 6 pack...runnin down the road at 60mph and punch it and burn the tires rite off it...that Swinger body was so lite it was scary at speed.

There are only a couple of things I would change on your ideal car. I had a 1970 Challenger with the 440 sixpack and 4 speed. I put the electronic ignition conversion on it and it was wonderful. I had 2 different Dana 60 axles for it, one had 3.55 gears and one had 4.10 gears. The 4.10 were just a little too much for all around driving but I liked the 3.55. Pistol grip shifter was also neat to have. If you drove it with any sense they also got reasonable mileage(16mpg on freeway at 65mph). Not bad for back then.

im the biggest dummy, back in the very early 80's i bought a purple '71 challenger cheap, it took a light hit on the front and needed a front clip, this one had the inline 6, but one of my friends had a 440 in his garage from a drag car, you see where this is going, then we found out to put the 440 in the 6 cylinder car we had to change out the whole front k member, now all we had to do was find one... i would up giving the car to another guy [ back then few wanted a dodge] they wanted camaros mustangs ect

That is why i loved my Road Runner somuch , Back then i DID NOT drive reasonable and out on the open road it would do almost 19 MPG , case in point here . My family had to go to Silver Spring Md. one weekend due to my one grandmother was dieing and all the family was coming in from all over the world for this. Mom and Dad and my two younger brothers were leaving at 8 in the morning and i had to go into work that friday morning to finish up a car that i was working on and promised it to the customer for the weekend. I let for work at 7 and was there at 7:30 and had the car done and road tested and out of the dealership at about ten . went home took a shower grabbed my bag went to the gas station and filled the Chicken with Sunoco 250 and set sail for the turn pike Got on the Ohio Pike at N. Lima and headed east at a vary high rate of speed. And almost in the blink of and eye i was getting my ticket for the Pa. pike . as i left the ticket booth i watched the speedometer sink out of sight in third gear and pulled her back into 4th and never looked back . Got off at Breezewood and pulled into the Sunoco station and filled the tank as i was just under 3/4 while i was checking the oil and the guy was cleaning my windsheild i happened to look across the street and setting at the Howard Johnson's wright in front was DAD's 68 YELLOW Impala and looking out the window was my youngest brother waving at me as they were having lunch ( i ignored him ) paid for the gas and got back into the Road Runner and down the road i went . Got to uncle Jack's greeted everyone there then my cousin Johnny and cousin Ann and i went into D C for and hour or so then came back just as Mom and Dad pulled in my drive time from home to Uncle Jack was 3 hours and 10 min. , Dads was 6 and a half. Dad's Impala avg. 17.6 MPG with his 282 two bbl. Road Chicken avg. was 18.8with 383 4 BBl . Now needless to say My Dad was no amused one tiny little bit, since Dad was and Ex Buckeye Bear. Plum loved that car , handled vary well had great stopping power with the 3x11 ft brakes and 2 3/4 x 11 back brakes had a super top speed and would run the quarter in 13.40's never ever got a speed ticket in it as they never could catch it.
