Prolly a dumb ???, but, do grains (wheat, barley, rye) keep growing if you cut them???? Got a section of the back yard that has a couple fruit trees. Don't feel like mowing it and am thinking about a couple hens and a rooster to keep it down and have enough eggs for private use... What is a good grass that I can plant? Or will grains keep growing if mowed/ate down??

Thanks,

Small grains such as wheat, oats or barley will keep growing while foliage is being removed until the temperature gets hot. That's why they are called cool season plants. I have grazed yearlings on wheat/oats from about Thanksgiving day to the first to the middle of June several years in N.TX before I lost my land lease.
