I read scrap yards will not take burned copper wire. Anyone had any experience selling burned wire. I have a few pounds of burned wire, and do not want to get in a mess with the EPA. Maybe I should just burry it, and forget about a few bucks? Stan

Why do you need to mess with theEPA?Why cant you just haul it the landfill?Cram it into some old feedsacks and throw it?

Stan,

Wait until November 1, the day after halloween to take it to the scrapper and tell him that the night before you heard a knock at the door and someone yelling "Trick or Treat", and when you opened the door, there it was piled up in a sheet like Casper the ghost. That should work, but if he balks, offer him a couple pieces of leftover candy from the night before to sweeten the deal.

It may be because all of the copper welding cable and other copper wire being stolen. The price for scrap copper is almost as much as buying new cable.

Most scrap yards don't care if they KNOW it's stolen, the issue is burning plastics and what that does to the air quality.

Local scrap yard I take stuff to buys burnt wire. They have you sign a waiver stating you didn't burn it in open air. (I guess they think everyone has a filtered incinerator) Price is reduced from clean wire by roughly 25%.

I have dealt with my share of burnt wire.....all the scrappers around here have no problem buying it.....you should be fine......hell, tell them it was stored in a little shed that burnt down.....wasnt your fault it burnt too.... ;)

most dont here in SW OK. Just put an ounce or two in with the better stuff or keep ,looking till you find a place that takes it. Or sell it to your local "middlemen" scrapper at a discount, he might take it.....

Our scrapyard used to take it no problem. I heard the same thing over the weekend and stopped in the yard yesterday. They had a sign up saying they will no longer accept it.
