I bought my 8 year old son a .22 this spring and he has been practicing all summer with it. He shot his first squirrel today. I think I was more happy and proud than him!

I got my first gun from my grandpa at age 12.
Single shot bolt action Stevens.
I wonder how many thousand .22 shorts I put through that rifle. Longs or long rifle were a lot more expensive so only used for 'serious' hunting.

Nice pic and looks like a Good Boy , good job Dad.
Pretty cool. My youngest was about 10 when I turned him loose with a small "range" and a single shot. I bet he went through 1000 rounds that summer. He's now in gun smithing school. It sure taught him to love his guns.
Those are special moments. I still remember my first kill many years ago now.

His gun is a marlin. When I was gun shopping I had a hard time finding a youth 22. the local gun shop wouldnt order one and bass pro only had 3 models to choose from. This one appered to be the best quality. He has shot 1100 rounds already! Its driving me broke! lol
