Need to wear a hat outside, acorns are flying around like little hailstones.
Around here people used to collect acorns by putting out old bushel baskets with a cloth in the bottom.
The acorns were used to either attract squirrels in winter if the food got low or to replant land that the lumber had been harvested off of. They would either use a plow or disk to rough up the ground and throw the acorns off the wagon. Another was to use a hoe to dig a small hole, drop in an acorn, take 10 steps and repeat.
i had also heard of people making flour out of the acorns from one type of white oak, but have never seen it done.
