another gas can gig.....

Cans you buy here are simple. Just a spout that "is supposed" to breath back thru itself. Real PITA (slow) but a 5 gal can can be bought for 6 bucks if you wait for a sale. Works good if you set it up and use a siphon hose tho......

Anyway, I've accumulated several American (blitz?) cans over the last 20 years that has either the little screw on vent cap or the little plastic flip vent cap. Anyone know if you can get repair (??) parts for them in the way of caps and spouts? Maybe something universal?

Thanks.

The repair parts would have to be from somewhere else. I believe the Blitz can company went bankrupt from being sued several times, the last time was when a guy threw gas on a fire and killed his little girl from the fire. (Google it)

I know what you mean, i've got about a half dozen plastic cans, that would work great if i could find the caps for them.

Someone suggested Jegs on a recent post, has a screw on vent cap, I would say one of these would be just fine, a giant red clorox container with a vent !

I don't think there is one person who has anything good to say about the half @ss attempt to create a safer container for gasoline leading to what's commonly available today. Its really funny that the result of their work, to improve safety on something you just cannot improve, lands on the shelf, people buy them and they do not work, are restrictive in flow, cause people to modify existing, new or older containers which may or may not be as safe. Its an "overthunk" (my word LOL!) farce !!! I mean, someone had to re-design the safer safety can and show the modification on you tube, what does that tell you, (new safety can designer) LOL !!!!

You take a container, you put a filler neck with a cap on it, you put smaller vent neck and cap, DONE !!! And it works fine ! You can't improve on that, well maybe the steel OSHA approved safety cans, which may be about double the cost of one of the below, and you have to figure out how to keep them from rusting, (keep full?), they do pour just fine and meet a requirement, I've used them, don't own any though.

I realize people are so different, have predisposed and unsafe "notions" about gasoline, so put a highly visible warning label on the container, one that will not fade, come off or what have you. Yes folks, its gasoline, low flash point, highly flammable, highly dangerous if mishandled. It has explosive vapors that will detonate from a spark, end of warning, but they make the rest of us suffer with these silly and less safe (which they think are safer) replacements so they can appease ignorance ?

On ebay there is a company making new spouts for Blitz, Eagle, and a few others, $10 a piece, just waiting to see if I find some more cans that have broken spouts before I place an order. chris

Sorry, just a paste it link, (actually, dunno how to make it a "just click it link"...8( )

Jegs has the good snap cap vents. They are replacement caps
for their racing fuel jugs. Just drill the right size hole and push
them in. I keep spares around. They just recently had to start
selling the jugs with no hole in the vent cap so you have to
drill the center out yourself. Apparently those who passed
that law have never had to use a fuel can.

Wife ran out of gas..ya..anyway I was in town didnt want to run home to get my many tanks.. cheaper just to buy a small gallon tank.. ANY WAY.. that thing had special spout that you had to put pressure on the nozzle which pushed on a spring in the nozzle and then would release the gas.. WHAT A PAIN Most of the ones I have are the 5 gallon plastic with a straight spout and on the opposite is a flip air hole.. they work great drain fast.. The few that I have that have "tricks" to them like above I "re-design"..:)

Would it be possible to drill a hole where the vent would be on an older plastic can and install a tubeless tire valve stem with the core removed and use the valve cap to close it.

All this tinkering by governmental agencies, whether it's gas cans or bicycle tires or cow farts---EPA, OSHA, Consumer Products Commission, or whatever other---has far less to do with safety or improved utility than it does with job security or job enhancement for some lower to mid-level bureaucrat who's trying to make his face stand out in a sea of other similar government employees who worry each day about how to justify their employment.

In such a managed environment status quo equals standing still, doing nothing. Since these people produce nothing, the only way they can draw management attention to themselves and prepare for their annual performance review is to come up with ideas, good or bad, that affect the status quo. A new design, a new process, a new regulation or new restriction---those are money in the bank for the ambitious young functionary regardless of whether they're practical or beneficial.

These people are the hidden enemy who are largely unaffected by changes at the top.

I've used one of these for many years with only one problem, it jumped out of my truck and busted the bottom, It served me well over the years so I bought another like it. Kinda high priced but it will last if treated right.

You need to check out my friends website. Just type in http://www.ezpourspout.com/.

or doo a google search for EZPour.

My friend gets around the laws put on american gas can manufactures which makes them now only sell the goofy non spill spout which actually spills a ton if you have ever used them with the old style spouts for the new cans. He used to be in landscaping and got frustraited when the laws changed so he started up his own business. Sells a ton of these things. The funny part is that some states will not allow him to sell a gas can lid so he sells it as a water can lid and it works on you gas can. Talk about using his smarts to get around the silly red tape!!
