trying to put a value on a 1973 ford 1/2 ton long
wheel base pickup. 1 owner with 73k miles. v8
automatic. mostly sat for the last 20 years but is
ran on short trips occasionally. motor and
transmission good. sound southern truck, not beat
up but does have surface rust in need of painting.
glass good, tires fair, needs seat covers. any
thoughts?

A 3/4 Ton would be nice..but if you don't need that capacity, it could last a good while..
Is it 302 or 351..?
Seen some 351M & 400M engines that really suck gas...
The Auto trans might help the 302 to pull something..

Ron..

One way to get an idea of the value would be contact the county tax department and see what their value is.
The value of older vehicles seems to vary widely depending where you are, judging from comments here and on other threads. One owner, 73,000 miles, solid glass, and fairly straight sheet metal, sounds good. Everything else can be taken care of at your leisure. The size engine could have some bearing on the price. 1973 was the first year of that particular body style and was carried all the way to 1978. I have a 76 F150 that I bought from the original owner over ten years ago for $600.00. The tax value was almost twice that amount, but the old man had used it on the farm and judging by the dents in it, I think he must have hit every fence post on the place and quite a few trees. But it was solid mechanically and I am still driving it. I wouldn't sell it today for what I paid for it.

a '73 V8 could be a 302, 360 (FT block) or 390. Value varies, with a truck that old it's about condition, orginality, optional equipment, trim line and where it's at. Up here in Wisconsin more than out west were they don't use your tax money to buy salt to dissolve your truck.

County Assessor is about the last person you want to consult about values around here. Any correlation between their valuation and reality is purely coincidental.

That is a worthless piece of junk don't even think about spending any money on it. If you give me the guys name and number I'll take care of it for you.

No tax value listed on any vehical that I know of. Used to use what was called taxable horsepower but that was discontinued back in the 60's or earlier.

Short trips are hard on an engine that doesn't get run much. If its in decent running condition I'd guess $900 to $1500.

pic would help with value, some rust can mean everything from light surface rust , easily sanded primed and painted to a rusted out hull only good for its motor and trans, if its light surface rust on a fairly straight body, runs good and it all works, 1500 is reasonable, if its got rust holes the size of a cat and beat up 500 for the motor and trans, probably 360 or 390 engine

Fords of that age had trouble with cab mounts rusting through the bottom front. drops the cab onto the steering shaft. also if the truck has been sitting on a dirt floor or outside, you can pretty much count on new brake and fuel lines and exhaust system.
