Sorry for off-topic...
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated! This is frustrating me to no end.

Printer worked perfectly prior to a computer crash a couple weeks ago, have not been able to get printer to work right since then.

Here are the things that I HAVE done:
1. cleared a paper jam
2. made sure it was set as default printer
3. made sure no check mark by pause/work offline

STILL not working, so...
4. unistalled printer software from computer
5. unplugged/disconnected printer for over 15 seconds
6. reinstalled software/hooked up printer
7. checked properties - says printer installed properly
8. checked for driver updates... says up to date
9. Have worked through several "guided solutions" to no avail.

I am beginnng to get these "partially" printed pages as shown by attached photo (before I was getting nothing).

If this is an inkjet printer, I'd suggest that the heads are partially clogged. I've found that if I don't print at least one page per week, I'm gonna have problems.........could be because I use generic ink. Follow the procedures to print a test page, clear clogged nozzles, etc.........

Agree with thurlow. Looks like the ink jet nozzles are clogged. Does it do this on both black and white AND color printing? What brand and model printer are you using?

Thurlow,

Thank you!! Printing a test page somehow got all the inks going.

Did not even think of dried up ink due to lack of use. Thanks again!

Brian,
Thanks so much! You and Thurlow were right. I was over looking the simple/obvious.

She is printing again!

Thurlow,

Also, just for your info...

I use always use HP ink...and it still dried up within two weeks time of non-usage. So apparently, brand of ink does not matter regarding the dry-up factor.

You're right, it doesn't make much difference as far as drying up.

Cheap aftermarkets are more likely to leak and ruin you're printer though.

As a side note, it's also not a good idea to take your empty cartridge out and
take it to the store with you to get the right one.

Doing that can let the ink dry in the printer and plug it up.

Just write the number down if you're buying local or order online.

FWIW, many printers also have a "cleaning" cycle you can run to help get rid of the dried ink.

Glad you got it working! Can't go without printing some of those wonderful pictures!! :)

uncle tom,

Thanks, will also do that tomorrow - just to be sure it all good and cleaned up.

Royse,
Thanks for the additional tips on ink.

Great to have it working... and yes, need to print some plowday pics for some local folks (said I would at the plowday - then my computer died).

Also got our first grandchild about 2 weeks ago and have not been able to print one photo! Now I can.

I should have read your other replies first... but normally what I'd do is shake the cartridges first and dab the ink ports with an alcolhol swab to see if there's anything there... and the same on the head if you can get at it. Beyond that, it's junk.
Luckily you got yours working.

Sweetfeet.I see you have it operating
...My printer is an epson, in the instructions when testing the print head nozzles that missing test pattern on the W, they say to clean the print heads.

An aside.. on the Wireless today the Technician says with ink jet printers to give it a run weekly to avoid the inks from drying out. He also said the generic inks will gradually make the printer fail, also the last resort was to use alcohol on it.

Bendee,
Thanks for the info anyway! And good to know of the alcohol cleaning as last resort. (Sometimes I'm bad at searching for help on the computer... more of a bookish person in that respect.)

Had I realized drying ink could be a problem I'd have copied a page once or twice per week - even though I had no computer connected.

RodinNS,
Thanks for the tips. May start doing the shake and swab when installing ink cartridges.

Normally between the kids and I we print paages frequently, so it has not been an issue. The dead computer just fouled me up being out of commission for such a length of time.
