I found a good looking good running John Deere A the price is pretty Decent on it. Last owner has had it for years. Everything looks great on it but when I was crawling underneath it I noticed the crank case looked wierd. Further inspection revieled that the corner of the case below the clutch had been busted and welded someone covered it with filler but obviosly didnt make it look super smooth becaues I noticed it. Would this have been cauesed by the motor gernading and punching a connecting rod through the case? Is it something to pe completley scared of? I was goign to build a cheap pulling tractor out of it. Also I figured I can get antother case for it down the line and swap them out.... Any ideas and comments would be appriciated.....

If its been running like that for years,I wouldn't worry.Lots of welded blocks out there....you said you wanted to build a CHEAP puller, didnt you?

It sound like that could just have a broken reduction cover ? Which bolts to the main case. And if so that would be an easy swap.
