I am looking at one and don't understand how you engage the front axle. Where is the switch? Is there no switch because the front axle is always engaged? If that is the case, is there a posi in the transfer case between axles? I only see a high/low lever for transfer case.

It has a sprag unit in it. Rears slip so much and the sprag kicks in. Once in they have a tendency to get stuck in. To unstick put in first, accelerate and step on the brakes without using the clutch.

The 5 ton rating is off road. X2 on road.

Just bought a 1970 Jeep Kaiser with 17,000 miles in march.Proving to be tons of fun.Just dont plan on getting anywhere fast.Top speed is just over 50 mph, cruises nice at around 42 mph.Sign up to the website Steelsoldiers.com they have free tech manuals.I bought a cd off of ebay that has the 600 page tech manual for the operator.Have read it cover to cover.Truck is full time 6 wheel drive with a hi-low transfer case. The M923 is an improved 5 ton if you have more cash to spend. If you are interested in a 2.5 ton duece and a half the M35A3 has a ton more modern features than the M35A2.Bill

Or just stop, put it in reverse and back up a few feet. If you keep going forward you can break something as it has to unload.

We tested all these trucks at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Even ran drawbar and cooling tests on them before being fielded. Used this heavy Field dynamometer on some of them. Hal

According to reading on the interwebs
The T-case has 2 sprags (forward and reverse) they are air actuated, do not let the truck roll back when the transmission is forward (or vice versa)

I have recently started playing with the 939 series trucks. Itis pretty wild; what the cost new, the lack of usage, and what they sell for.

I have been to the Ike Skelton National Guard Training Site a couple of times viewing trucks, pretty amazing.
