When Germany was reunited how was owership of farm land handled? I know lots of farmers fled west during the cold war did they lose title to their farms?

Wife says that a lot of the land and equipment belonged to the state (??) and the folks were paid to work it... You wouldn't believe how much wide open land (forest and farmland and just unused land). Don't know how it worked, but a lot of folks became landowners/leasers quick.... I was just in the former DDR (East Germany) near my area last weekend. Some big and nice farms.....

Thanks Dave,
One close friend of mine left the eastside when he was a small child, married a neighbor girl here and immigrated to the US after med school in South Africa. He told me that his parent lost their house in East Berlin for failure to pay property taxes.
