OT -Wood Pellet Baskets

Just reading about wood pellet baskets - basically, a basket that goes in your conventional woodstove to hold pellets for burning. Anyone use them? Comments?

I'm working away from home now and my time is limited to cut/split/lug wood for the stove. And I'd like to make it easier for my wife while I'm not there. That may make it worth buying a ton or two of pellets.

I know wood is the cheapest fuel, esp. since I have wood to cut and my own splitter, but sometimes other factors must be considered. For example, I also think wood pellets would burn a lot cleaner in my wood stove. And easier on the wife, like I said.

Severla videos on youtube showing them in operation, but not a lot of actual info. Is it a scam? The only comment I saw about burn time said a basketfull will burn for approx. 3 hours. Of course, how hard a burn?

Look into Bio Bricks. They come palletized in 1 Ton units like pellets. The company I used to work for before retirement sold around 600 tons of them last year, and everyone really liked them. You can also buy them in 3&6 packs. Try them first, as I cant see how loose peppets will last any amount of time loose in a stove. The company is the largest Harman dealer in NY, and the largest regional Bio Fuel dealer also, so these words come from someone with tech experience.

they work.... but that's about it... Saw them at the local BB store for 60 sumpin bucks.... Too tight to buy it then... Few months later, there was a big pile of them at the store entrance for 10 bucks...... Got one and a 30# bag of pellets. Still have about 20#..... The biobricks that ACG mentioned are a good option...
For what you spend on them tho, you could prolly have a load of wood cut shorter (easier to handle) and delivered....

I just bought a half ton of the biobricks (same thing anyway) today tho

I bought a pallet of pressed logs last year from a distributer who resold to stores. They where about 1/5 the store price. My wife liked them, they need kindling and light like hardwood. We burned one bundle a day (12 sticks) on average, I think there was 90 bundles on the pallet, so it lasted all season. Burned 1/2 cord of softwood on top of that.

I might try bio brick this year, they had them too for the same price per tonne.

Dad had a Harmon wood stove for years and really liked it. I got too busy with my job and family that I didn't always have the time to help him and Mom handle their wood. Dad gave me the stove and put in a new Harmon pellet stove, he liked that even more. 3 years ago I put in an England pellet stove and that's been my primary heat source although I have a fuel oil boiler in backup duty if needed. I don't know how well one of those "baskets" would work unless the stove is a forced draft. I know pellets will pretty much just sit there and smoke if they don't have a decent draft. I really like spending $1,000 a year on pellets as opposed to $4,000 a year on fuel oil. Of course I have a trailer to haul 2 pallets at a time and a place to store them and for $3,000 in savings, I have the little bit of time each day to "tend the fire".
