Mom sues police after arrested for letting kids play outside

A Texas mom was arrested and spent the night in jail after a neighbor complained that the children were unsupervised. The parent, Tammy Cooper, disputes the charge, saying she was watching the kids the whole time from a lawn chair. But police took the neighbor at her word, and a few hours after the call, arrested Cooper for child endangerment. Cooper told KPRC that the arresting officer told her, "We're here for you."

Boy if they had laws like that when I was a kid my mom would have been on death row........

My Mom should have been arrested for making us come in for supper after dark and then even worse made us take a bath on Saturday night. She got by with it because the neighbors were 2 1/2 miles down the road doing the same thing.

The city of Edmonton had some fools that wanted to ban kids from playing street hockey on side streets or in cul-de-sacs. I think because an even bigger fool, who thought they were more important, complained when they were in a hurry to get somewhere and the kids had to move out of the way.

past few years some agencies have been sued for failure to act on complaints- domestic complaints and child endangerment complaints high on liability list. SO, the safest thing for police to do legally is take down complaint, get complainers name on form or recording from dispatch, go out and do as law requires- take into custody- and let court system handle the rest. Any attempts to sue police get the complaint form and transcript of complaint call, complainer gets the filing false report charge and civil hassles. Divorced parents child endangerment complaints get a big red flag for police to follow law closely and let the judges decide- and locally a few "parents" have ended up in jail for 3 to 6 months for false complaints and perjuries, police officers have no worries for following laws. Be interesting to see original complaint and do record check on mother jailed, complainer and maybe fathers history. RN
