aftermarket 3pt hitches

How useful are the aftermarket hitches such as those from Saginawcountytractor and Worksaver? I know there is no draft control so a 3pt plow is out of the question but that's fine. I know they have stablizers so would they work well enough for a 4-row cultivator? I do have collars to place on the cylinders to control the depth. Would the 2 way cylinder provide enough down pressure for a rear blade?
Had the thought of saving up some money and getting one for my Oliver 770. I'd also have to purchase front weights and then probably upgrade the front tire from the 5.50-16s to 6 or 6.5-16s, plus the one rear tire already needs to be replaced. Even with all the "extras" I'd need to get I think this would be more affordable than buying another tractor at this time.

Those aftermarket 3 points are just fine-very useful.I've had one on my Super M for 30 years.With it I have done any/every operation you can think of,includeing plowing.If I need constant depth,I use either stop collars or gauge wheels.One cylinder will provide down pressure,but you dont need it,wont like it,it will get you in trouble.You dont need any front wts unless the implement is heavy,you probably dont need to "upgrade" front tires,unless you hang 1000lbs on the front(I have,the 6.50s carried it)Go for it,Get your hitch.It will make your tractor more useful,you will like it.Good luck,Steve

I put a Saginaw hitch on my AC D 15 last year. Got sick and tired of taking off the drawbar and throwing on the beast of a 3 pt. Only problem, I've had is that I have to remove the arms when I use the haybine, and when I put the rototiller on, I have to be careful not to hit the drawbar going too deep. But, boy, it sure is handy

I have one on a "M" and have made severa; others for AC tractors plus have a fast hitch to 3 point. I agree they are handy but as I have said many times a tractor and a 3 point kit is not equal to a 3 point tractor.

some will work with the original hitch some you have to remove the original hitch
if you have to remove the original hitch to mount the three point you will come to hate it

I can not tell you how good one is I just use the pictures of them and build my own and so far all of the ones I have built work just fine. I have a all be it crude built 3 point on my Oliver 77 and it works just fine. I used 2 hyd cylinders and it is a total bolt on and off set up

I like the Sag hitch I put on my SuperC. It still has the original drawbar on it too.

I put one on my Farmall H, made a useful tractor out of it. It is built heavier than most oem 3 points. I ran a 2-16 oliver plow with it, did a great job.

Added a Cross Manufcturing Co. 3-point to my H, and I plow with a JD 3-point 2-14 gage-wheel plow, disc with a 8" JD wheel disc, bush-hog with a 6" Howse bush hog... the 3-point made a real tractor out of my H. However it was too light weight, I bent it up and had to have it rebuilt. Go with the heaviest one you can, you"ll like it a lot.

I have a Saginaw on my farmall h. No draft control but I don't plow or cultivate so it's a non-issue. I use a 6 foot mower, a post hole auger, a box blade, and a dirt scoop regularly. Works great.

I have an adapter setup that converts Farmall 200 2pt hitch to 3 pt. Worked quite well for most applications, too numerous to mention. No draft control, so plowing on rolling ground was a challenge. Every time front of tractor went up plow went deeper, and vice versa.... Real chllenge to keep plow in proper depth. Put a guage wheel on plow which helped.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information. After reading your replies I remember my friend's dad has an aftermarket 3pt on his M, uses it for a 3pt sickle mower and for moving round bales even though it get light in the front end with some of those bales. I agree with one who replied, that it isn't the same as a tractor with factory 3pt. I am looking toward the future and seeing what I can do to make the tractor more useful. Just about everything I can do with pull-type implements except cultivate crops and (easily) move round bales. Ideally I'd like to have another tractor, but have to work with what I have for now. I also have a saginaw 3 point on my H. Use it with 3 point hitch plows, 8' spring tooth harrow, a carry all and 3 point 6' brush hog. works really well.

I believe the Siganaw is the best aftermarket hitch available today. I believe the best aftermatrket three point hitches ever were the Abbott Hitches which we had in the 60's and 70's, but Abbott has been out of business for many many years. Siganaw will give you excellent service for all your needs.
