Does this tractor have brakes? I inherited this and am trying to restore it. I couldn't find a 1964 manual, so am using a 1965 one. Using the schimatic from the Sears site, there doesn't appear to be a brake system. Any help ould be appreciated.

There shouldn't be that much difference in the '64 and '65s. They had an external brake band on the transaxle, on the left side. There is a possibility that it may have been discarded when it wore out, but they did come equipped with brakes. I seriously doubt if replacements are available, however there have been other makes with similar brake systems, so it may be a matter of doing a little research. I have a Custom, I think it is a 66 model, they were good little units. Good luck.

I can't see where anything from the '65 manual drawing would be on my '64. Would it be possible (I don't know how this would work on this site) to post a picture of the left side of your unit so I can see how it looks.
Thanks

Bobby, I don't have any way to post photos at present, but just look under the tractor, between the tranxaxle and the frame, and there should be a shaft coming out of the trans. On this shaft there should be a solid round "drum" about 3 to 4 in. dia. A band with brake lining material wraps around the drum. When you push in the clutch part way it loosens the belt, push it in the rest of the way and it applies the brake. Again, this is on the left side. The input shaft and pulley for the drive belt are on the right. Keep me posted, I will be happy to advise you any I can.

I found it! Actually, I located where the brake rod assembly should be. The drum is there and the pedal but, all the parts in between are missing. Both of the previous owners say that they didn't remove those parts and don't have them. Now, I have to see if I can replace them. I replaced the carb, will start with that place for the brake system. Thanks for your help.
