OT--Coming soon to a home near you?

My newspaper ran a story today with some very disturbing numbers: here in this mid-sized southern city, there have just this year been “30 to 40” home invasions, with a startling five homicides resulting, and several assaults. Three have been killed just this month. I have been hearing and reading about these all along, but until the numbers are tallied you just don’t realize the extent of it

These started out as inner-city ghetto events where everyday violence is a way of life and where the victims were thought to have been keeping drugs and/or drug money. Now the perps have branched out into a more innocent clientele in middle class environments. Their MO ranges from the basic kicking in the door to shouldering the door open when someone answers a knock, to the latest incident where some people were accosted while sitting on a patio for a birthday celebration. A young man, the honoree, had been out on an errand, returned and found the thugs holding guns on his guests. He heroically but foolishly fought the invaders but took a slug in the head for his efforts.

In another case an elderly woman was locked in a closet while the crooks ransacked her apartment. Problem is, they didn’t let her out and after about a week she died there.

I can recall only one case, two or three years ago, where the inner-city predators took their act outside of town into the country to more isolated victims. In that case they tied up a man’s mother, and when he walked in and surprised them, they shot him and set him on fire. I look for more and more of this to happen, and I’m kinda surprised there haven’t been more, because lots of people here live back off the road, out of earshot of neighbors. Some 50 years ago I read the Truman Capote account of the murder of the Herb Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, and I’ve never forgotten the lesson that it can happen.

When I was just a kid back in the 40s someone came into our secluded farmhouse while we were sleeping, walked right past my bed. Dad, awakened by the dogs, went to the front door, S&W in hand, only to hear the side screen door slam shut as the intruder exited. We began locking our doors after that.

Thats a good reason to have a CWP,be armed to the teeth.Always expect the unexpected.Just the way the world is going now a days.We armed and intend to keep it that way.Just our way of self preservation.LOU

about the same thing here. the farm north of me got hit 2 weeks ago. they came back yesterday and hit hin again. In total about 5 houses have got hit..I live 15mi from the farm. I have gone out there and picked up a lot of stuff and brought it home.. The sad thing is when they get caught nothing happens . But it has caused me carry. IT JUST MAKES ME MAD

It is sad that "out in the country" isnt safe like it used to be and the suburbs are infested with crime.
Never answer the door without looking out the window first, if it is someone you dont know get a gun. (no exceptions)

Same thing is beginning to happen in this area. Two people were shot last week about 20 miles from me for a small amount of money. I have a concealed carry permit and there are at least three loaded guns in differant rooms in my house. Even thinking of hanging a hand gun on the inside of the front door. DH

I need a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun concealed in my truck, store or where ever I choose to carry it concealed. I don't need a permit to open carry or in my house. DH

yea, and our dumb azz gov. in il has vetoed concealed carry every time it gets to his desk.
says concealed carry won't make a difference. in fact will make things worse.
if i thought the guy i was going to rob might have a gun in his pocket neext to his wallet i would think about it 2 or 3 times

Yeah, That's because Quinn lives in Chitago and has a whole bunch of bodyguards.
Wish he would come downstate a little more often to see the gangbangers, crackheads and meth producers that seem to be so prevalent right now - and probably longer!

Sad state of affairs. IF only someone stood up to tell them:
1) Pass a drug test for LINK cards.
2) LINK cards don't buy chips and soda.
3) Pull your pants up and get a job.
4) Work at any job - Like you need the money.
5) I might be Concealed Carry - Wanta ask?

IN NC possible fine and having your gun confiscated. Every state has differant laws. Most towns in NC you can carry open with no problems unless on school grounds or state or federal building.

At my house I have the locking screen door for my mother, and she keeps it locked. Puts an extra layer in between - they would need to bust out the glass and get that unlocked first.... but older neighbors also know I have an old shotgun like most farmers.
Did have 3 men try to rob me in the cereal asile of the grocery store. When they realized I was not cooperative - they gave up and went back to stealing womens purses.

A real great way to earn your living... stealing from the elderly.. what low lifes.

Concealed carry only keeps the honest people from having guns.
Crooks don't break rules so they are all permitted... Yep they even get a 180 day sentence and figure out new ways of beating the system. Slap on the hands if you ask me. More like schooling so they don't get caught as easily next time.

I have an ex BIL that way. Drugs ruin everyone.

I like what I read recently about a Kentucky man 92 years old did. He heard someone brake into his walkout basement I think it was, Heard someone coming up the stairs, & when they opened the door; He was sitting in a recliner with a double barrel shotgun, & blew the guy back down the stairs. The crooks 2 buddies took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, & police arrested the buddies. Never mess with a WWII Veteran!!! Or any other for that matter.

Not so much trouble in rural TX. This is still the wild west down here. We have the Castle law now that allows loaded handguns in our vehicles without a chl. We've always been able to have loaded long guns.

We do have home invasions on the rise in the city but they seem to be making sure nobody is home.

Yesterday's news reported a case of road rage in which some guy banged on some ladies window till he broke it(Houston rush hour traffic). She shot and killed him. Grand jury is looking at it now. Most likely she will be no billed.

Don't mess with Texas!!
