Was looking over the poor excuse of a garden thinking how soon I can plow it under - well we have had 5 1/2 inches of rain since aug 30. Now the eggplants are coming on and peppers are blooming - got's me all xcited - just hope we don't get a frost too soon!

LOL I just planted the fall garden stuff the other day. Lettuce cabbage, radishes, and a couple other thing. Got around 2 inches of rain over night and today and when checking for eggs noticed where a pumpkin had rotted on the vine I now have a bunch of pumpkins growing for the seed left there. Canning some more Sweet jalapeno slices today since it is around 60 out side and still raining a bit

We had addiquit suplies of water to irrigate our garden all summer, but it just didn't produce anything but very large plants with no produce. The last couple weeks we have been overwhelmed with produce. It's been a 7 day a week job to keep up with canning, freezing (no more room in vegie freezer). The wifey has resorted to dehydrating stew and soup stock. The tators and onions are all dug and stored in the root celler. Still have more mators, carrots, cabage, celery, brusel sprouts, dried beans, winter squash and mellons to harvest. The wifey didn't even go to the grocery store this week.
We're looking to be "net 0" at the grocery store, other than basics for cooking. Got lots of fish and hoping for some venison, "season opens early this year"

Yep, the Zucchini produced everything but gords nearly all summer. Cucumbers just starting to produce though they have had blossoms for several weeks. Peppers had an early flush then very little but now producing again. The garden has been frustrating for the past couple of years. I bought another half bushel of tomatoes today so we would know there would be enough canned stock.

I keep the seed packages to remind me what my garden was supposed to look like.

I've had frost the last 2 nights. Had sprinkler on the first night. Last night wasn't supposed to be as cold. GUESS WHAT. Got water on it early this morning some damage but not too bad yet.

We also got the 5 inches of rain left from Isaac. The asparagus has come to life. I cut some last nite just enough for a meal. The Okra has really taken off too. My peppers have been producing all summer and more now since the rain. I planted all my plants in 8"dia holes about 4ft deep this year, pumpkins, watermelons, canaloupes, peppers, tomatoes. Each one got 3 gallon of water every nite when it was hot, they all did good and never wilted. I'll be drilling holes in the garden again next year.
