JD 425 no-start issue resolved I think

A while back our 425 rider started giving us troubles starting. Thye original issue was one of my nephews (or neice) pulled out the PTO switch so it wouldn't start.

After that, for whatever reason, it had been hard to start. I remembered a while back it had the same issue, and the mechanic replaced a solenoid by the carb and it had been good. I ponied up the $$$ ($90 part) on an educated guess and after I installed it, it started right up. Sure beats the over $300 bill we got for that problem last time.

Only started it and ran it for a 1/2 hour to do some of the lawn, but if it starts this good again the next time I'll consider it fixed...

My LX280 died tonight, pretty sure it is the same issue. It did
it last year and I tapped on the solenoid, it worked almost a
year.

How hard was it to replace solenoid?

30 minute job including running across the yard to get the tools needed.

I also replaced the ignition delay module a few years ago because it would die while running. Would go maybe 15-20 minutes then die and not start until cooled off. That's a $20 repair.

It wasn't actually attatched to the carb, but it was in front of it right under the air filter. On mine (20 HP Kawi V-twin) it has 3 hoses and 2 wires going to it. Not much for $90 if you ask me...

My experience is they just stick, I just take mine off, and wipe it off, and put it back on. That seems to last most of the summer till it sits around some(like the last two months with no rain) and I have to do it again. Find the wire on the bottom of the carb, unplug the wire and then unscrew the can, I think it takes a 10mm wrench.
