What went wrong with yours?

A ford dealer should be able to get you a new one.

Or a good machine shop could build one.

The u joints should be replaceable.

Talk to us. Give us more infromation.

THANKS FOR REPLY, SHAFT NO LONGER AVAILABLE FROM DEALER. WHAT HAPPENS THE SHAFT HAS 2 SLIP LIKE COUPLERS IN EACH END. SEEMS THEY MOVE AND IT STARTS TO MAKE SHAFT SLIP I'VE FOUND A USED 1 AND IT WORKED GOOD. DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. WORSE COMES TO WORSE MIGHT JUST TACK WELD COUPLER SO IT DOES'NT MOVE OR PIN THEM BOTH. AS FAR AS A MACHINE SHOP, TRIED THAT ROUTE HERE IN GREAT FALLS,MT I THINK THEY WERE SCARED. FIRST THEY SAID IT WAS METRIC AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TOOLING. KINDA THINK THEY JUST DIDN'T WANT TO DO THE JOB. THAT'S THE M.O. IN THIS TOWN FOR EVERYTHING. USAULLY I JUST OUTSOURSE THATS WHY I SHOWED UP HERE. THANKS, SORRY FOR BEING LONG WINDED. KURT

Seems to me if they move they need to move. Are your U joints in time. In other words are the yokes on both ends lined up with each other.

makes sense to me just went out to look at whats going on with this shaft but i may be a dummie but i don't see any exposed u-joints. please help me understand about the joints, thanks,KURT

hey joe thanks, i think thats where i bought my last shaft. if i'm not mistaken they;re a bunch of amish fellas. treated me good last time. i'll give em a call in the morning thanks kurt

If it's taking the splines out of the couplers and shaft... I think I'd take a hard look at how much slow is in the front axle pivot bushings. There's probably some where in that area that places the shafts out of line... which causes the wear. Unless you're out doing some kind of severe work with the tractor locked in FWD... The shafts should NOT be wearing out like that.

The reason nobody wants to touch them is likely because they're case hardened. They could no doubt make a shaft easily enough... but most places would not have the ability to correctly harden it... and if it's left soft it won't be as strong and the splines will not last.
Whatever you do.... DO NOT WELD the couplers. They need to have some movement and welding will remove that. This will lead to breakage of the front pinion shaft at the weld.
