Another man was crushed to death yesterday at Select Sires Bull Farm, here in Ohio...

It is a really well set up operation..but, if a door is accidentally left closed, the Bull has you cornered...
Has happened a couple times before...

Accidents happen so fast, you cannot be too careful...

Select has handled several thousand bulles over the years with no problems. Do not see it as a problem for them. They take all of the prcaustions for working with these animals,

You would see it as a problem if it were your son and not a migrant worker that was killed. You would have a high priced attorney all over them and not be so blase with "They take all precautions."

I know of one that happened while my brother still worked there...
May have been the same problem...
The Bull is led into a stall and the door at the far end is to be ready to open to let the man out..
If that door is not able to open, the man gets shoved between the bars that are maybe 6" apart..
Few live through that..maybe one has but just barely..
It is a very good system that works and should be safe..but, when something goes wrong there are no second chances...

But if they had a small opening in the wall where a man can pass through [like at the auction ring] but not the Bull, it may be a lifesaver.

Bendee,
An escape hole in the wall sounds like a great idea. No guarantee, but at least a chance.

dont know the particulars,or the place, but leading any large animal into a pen, horse, cow mule or whatever with a small opening on the outlet is a mighty poor way of operating.worked at the stockyards here a few years. every accident they had was when a man and a animal tried to go through a gate at the same time. and most of them werent bulls,an old cow thats excited and sees an opening to get her head through will hurt you as bad. a horse or mule will do the same. main reason is that the cant see behind them,so they dont like to back up.you get in a narrow place, old cow or bull gets his/her head through with you and you get between post and their shoulders, your stuck.the more you kick and beat the more they try to go ahead on simply because if their heads through they see that as the way to get loose.NEVER EVER build a pen with a man outlet straight ahead, put it on the side. cattle sale ring doesnt have a gate straight ahead where a wild or frightened animal can see it,they have them on the side.
