6 volt battery cable size?

(quoted from post at 19:05:00 09/06/12) oliver 4 cyl gas cable from switch to starter is 3
ft long ground is 2 ft long what gauge cable is
needed Thanks Brad

Brad, 6 volt really eats up the amps so the bigger the better. I used 00 on my 6 volt trator until I UPGRADED to 12 volt.

Yeah the heavier the better. I used 00 from 2 gauge and it made the world of difference in starting on my 6volt Farmall H. Really helps. Also soldered connections. Don't skimp and get the small ones. They just don't carry the amps needed. If your cables get hot they are to small.

Cables that are no more than 3 feet to 4 feet long do not need to be any heavier than #1 gauge. Go ahead and pay for #00 if you want to lighten your wallet, but #1 will do just fine.

Get as big as you can find! I had 1 ga on my Ford (which are only about 18" long....). I switched to 00 ga. The heavier cables made a WORLD of difference.

Were the #1 gauge cables in good condition?
