I read the posts on the Farm Accident below. This reminded me of a young boy years ago probably in the mid to late 1980's that got his clothing caught in a pto shaft and it pulled his two hands off and he was the only one at home and made it in to the house and dialed 911 by using a pencil in his mouth. Then he laid in the bath tub to keep from getting blood all over the house. I wonder how this poor boy is doing today? Does any one remember this accident story?

Don't remember that, but there was one here about 30-35 years ago when a young guy was rolling up the hose for an irrigation traveler. The hose wasn't flattening out,so he kicked it. He got caught and was wound up in the reel. His Dad and some hired help found him. He lived, but he lost a leg and I think an arm.

I think his name was John Anderson, about 18 years old, from the Fargo area. Both arms were reattached in a Mpls area hospital. They were functional. He received a lot of donations and wanted to start a singing career. That didn"t work out, and the last article I read about him, he said he spent the bulk of his time managing his investments.

About 20 years ago, we had a guy here who ot caught up in a round baler. He was still living, and talking, when his son found him. As soon as he was pulled out, he died.

They said when that guy got wrapped in the hose reel, when his Dad and the hired man found him,the dad wanted to take the torch and cut him out. The guy that was wrapped up told him not to until the ambulance got there. Told his dad he'd be dead before they got there if they cut him out.

Two years ago, a 18 year old kid went thru a New Holland baler several miles away. Local New Holland dealer had to remove the body.

we have had a family near me that had a son unloading a chopper wagon into a bunk when the feeder tines on top caught on something. He reached up to unjam them and ended up going through the auger and passing away. we also have a 80ish gentleman that has gotten loose clothing caught in his pto 2 times in the last 20 yrs. the last time it stripped him to a waistband of undies and a work boot. He now has issues with a hip but other than that has been very lucky. Another young man 50ish was picking corn when he got his arm caught triing to un plug it. Ripped arm right off at the shoulder. He put his belt on the stub to stop the bleeding walked 1/4 mile to the house for the phone to call 911. then jumped in his truck and went back to the feild to get his arm to they could try to reattatch it. It didnt work. these accidents have all taken place in the isabella county area in the last 20 yrs.Lots more that I dont connect with but these I have connections too.

We lost a family friend here that hit close to home too.
Back in the early 80's man went out to grind some feed.
When he didn't comeback his wife went to look for him.
Essentially found clothing still wrapped around the running PTO shaft.
Every male member of another family just down the road from me is missing
fingers or hands from old machinery, but they're alive.
Makes me wonder how I made it.
I haven't done any farming since 1984, but I was farming as a very young child.
I didn't have a lick of sense, so it must have been angels.
