OT - Farm / Home insurance rates

our farm-homeowner rate just jumped 30% !!!! I read on web rates are going up all over. Who is the best in PA at insuring farm homes? By best I mean cheap. 20 years and never a claim. Not 1 cent.

Our Homeowners with Goodville Mutual (Main office in New Holland PA)only went up ~ $20 this year, 3% over last year. Other policies went up about the same.

Talk to your agent about ways to bring your premium down. Carrying "replacment cost" as apposed to "actual cash value"on older house and buildings is much more expensive. Little add ons by a greedy agent ups cost. Little add on examples= coverage for run-a way trains, damage caused by ozone and on and on. One way to get your agent to review your policy with an eye toward lowering premium is tell the agent you may have to drop coverage or consider alternatives because of riseing cost.
And don't overlook comparing companies.
Last but not least, you do not have to wait until renewal date to change coverage or companies(at least that's true in Texas).

Our new premium just arrived on Sat. It went up 12%. We live in Wisconsin. We have never had a claim in 30 years. Always kept same co. but have had 4 different agents assigned to us over the years. Just figured it is a sign of the times with all the major weather related claims in last few years.

If you're a veteran, get in touch with United Services Automobile Association-USAA. I don't think anyone can beat them for home & auto insurance. I've been with them since '63.

Their # is 800-531-8722.

Mine actually went down this year. Quite a bit actually so I called in and asked what they had changed on me. They said everything was the same as last year but they were able to lower rates. I have Allied Ins.

I've been with USAA 25 years now, there not the cheapest but are steady, kept us in Florida after Andrew & no-name storm caused a lot of companies to pull out of Florida. They can also sell you insurance if you're out of the country or can work with you to have dual insurance-meaning if You're a GI they don't have a problem sending you a MI card to match your tags and a Fla card 'cause that's were your living.

Price shop and check your credit score, you pay for your insurance by how high or low your score is.

We've Had USAA for 35 yrs. Been very happy with them. We had to get farm Ins. with the Farm Bureau for Farm Stuff because they couldn't insure equipment on the farm for us. But we still have them on the autos.
