So do those little deer whistle you put on cars really work to keep deer away from your car so your less likely to hit as deer when driving??? I have talked to a few people and get mixed answers as to if they work or not. Some say yes they work some say no and some say they work if the area is open and not a lot of hills and trees etc.

Old I have run them on my cars and trucks for 30 years. I can't really say if they work or not but never hit a deer . I have come up on them but they have always turned and ran away from road. Insurance company use to give a rate discount if you had them but no more. They say you can't hear them but I have mine mounted under each mirror and you can her them going down the road.

Save your money. Favorite daughter whacked a deer with my Eldorado that had them and I've whacked 2 deer with my F150 that had them. The 2nd time with the F150 the deer removed the whistles with the grill. Haven't hit a deer since then with the F150.

I use them and I have seen them work. I have seen deer by the edge of the road look up and turn and run back away from the road. But I have also come over a hill and almost hit a buck who was more interested in the doe he was chasing. A little off your question, but two years ago on I80 in IA, I saw a large deer running all out cross three lanes and at the fourth lane crash into the right front fender near the drivers door of a car. The deer exploded on impact.

We have had them on all of our rigs for 25plus yrs. Have watched deer and other critters turn and run away from the road when we aproach with the vechical. We feel that we have saved many dollars with the whistles and will not drive without them. Very cheap damage control. clint

I've never used them, but somebody once said their the perfect scam. People can't hear them, so you there's no way you can know if they're even making a noise.

To keep your deer whistles working properly you have to keep them clean . If you get a bug or small object caught in them they don't work.

But they are more aerodynamic that way! I suppose it doesn't really matter on a truck with the aerodynamics of a boxcar though...

Had them on my rural route when I drove for FedEx Home. Save your money-said deer would stop when they heard those, letting you safely past! 4 out of 5 would keep coming, the 5th couldn't, as she was already dead!

They will stop dogs, how many dogs did you hit? If none, then they can claim that they work. LOL

Scam, nothing but scam.

Ohio DNR tested some quite a few years ago: said they were a waste of money.

If folks believe that they work, more power to 'em.

In my OPINION, there are a hundred other things on a car that make noise (belts, bearings, wind noise, etc.) that either scare deer away, or make them jump out in front of your car.
They do (or did for awhile) work for the company that manufactured them. I'm sure a lot of deer whistle manufacturing owners are rich because of them.

A good friend owns and operates a body shop in our town. He's got a collection of deer whistles hanging on the wall of his office. They're off cars he's repaired after they hit deer.

Like many others, I just chuckle when I see 'em. Complete and total waste of money.

Go to YouTube and search for "hitting deer". There are quite a few videos of deer getting splattered or cut in half by police cars with lights and sirens on, loud Harelys, loud race cars on tracks, trains, etc. They might work, but there are a lot of things out there that do not. I don't have them on my vehicles, and about a year ago I got my first deer up in Michigan on US12 doing just under the posted speed limit of 55. She was DOA, and so was the front end of my truck, and the side as she wrapped around and got tossed. Would deer whistles have helped? Got me.

Good luck.

I've written a whole bunch of crash reports with deer over the years. Many have been equipped with deer whistles. None of which seemed to work. Maybe the deer got used to hearing them. I have also hit a deer with my siren operating. They seem to get confused with the sound bouncing off objects.

Those deer call whistles??? I put two on the wife's car she mediately hit three deer in the next six months. I took them off and she has not hit one in the last four years. So I would say they work real well.

Ohhh they are supposed to run the deer off???? Well then I guess they don't work too well then. LMAO

They are snake oil. put them on if you want but they don't do anytime. As for the guys that say the deer look at their cars and run away. I am betting that it is the car noise not the little plastic whistles.

I have a turbo diesel, so think of that as having built in deer whistles. I only hit about one deer a year. I really do not think they help.

Deer whistles are a steady sound which does not affect deer. What DOES work , and I prove it 2 or 3 times a week on the way to work , is the same response you would use if you saw someones child comming towards the road. HONK the freeking horn! And no don't hold down steady on it...off and on repeatedly. IT WORKS!! Ever wonder why emergency vehicles use the type sounds they do as apposed to the old sirens they had 50 yrs ago?? On/off honking has worked every time I've seen deer. Otherwise they just stand there and wait for you to get to them to run out. If they could make a "silent to us" alternating hi/lo sound to put on your car it might work , but why not just use your horn , you would if it was a child!

The NYSP ran them on all their cars for a few years. Made zero difference in the Troop car/deer accident rate, and they hit a lot of deer so they'd use them if it made a difference. I ran them on my POV for some time, still hit several deer. Like sharpening lightening rods and magnets that get you better mileage, I think any advantage is in the mind of the user.
