i found a add for a 1974 john deere 830, 2 states over, so its close, looks pretty original with the usual paint wear a workin tractor would have, but clean overall, from what i can see in the pic i dont see any loader mount marks, priced at 4750, it says 3 cycle diesel, now im 99.99% assuming this should be 3 cylinder diesel, the same 40 hp diesel i have in my 301A , in fact the tractor looks like my 301, but jd is long known for doing things a little different, usually for a good reason, so i thought id get some input on the tractor, after all a 3 cycle diesel engine would have to have some pretty unique mechanical innerds lol

My dad's grandfather bought one new in 1974. He still has it and it is our main working tractor on the farm. Until 4 years ago it did all of our haying and tillage but now we have two bigger tractors for that.

The 830 is a 3 cylinder and I am sure that was just a typo. We have hydraulics mounted on ours and we also occasionally put a loader on it. In all the years we have had it the only major thing that has ever happened to it is that a year ago it needed brakes. I guess they just disintegrated because they weren't made to last that long.

If the previous owner took care of it, you wont be disappointed.

A JD 830 utility is a good little tractor. They had the same displacement as the JD 300 and 1020. They just played with the governed speed to have different horse powers. The early JD 830 where governed at 2100 rpm and the 1020 was at 2500 rpm. That along was the only difference in them.

i do, oklahoma is close, if every other tractor im looking at is in the midwest lol
